Matthew Maloney C / 2B / Central Catholic, MA / 2021Rankings StateRank: 68 / POS: 8
WINDHAM, N.H. - Sports has certainly played a big part in the lives of Matt Maloney’s family. His father Kevin, whose dad Bill taught and coached at Central Catholic, is a long-time coach in baseball, volleyball and basketball at Greater Lawrence Tech. Sister Kayla is currently a pitcher at Columbia. Now Matt, the youngest in a family of three children, is looking to make a name for himself after a commitment to play baseball at Dayton. “I’ve wanted to play college baseball since I was 13,” explained the Central Catholic junior. “My sister Kayla was going through the recruiting process and I wanted to do exactly what she was doing. I wanted to be like her. The biggest thing I learned was that you have to get your name out there.” For the 66th-rated 2021 in New England, that happened at the Future Games in early August. “I was trying to get my name out there as much as I could, but before the Future Games I only had some D-III schools emailing me,” Maloney reflected. “I was a bit concerned. I was putting in all this work and nobody noticed me, but the Future Games definitely put me on the map. Playing every game in front of any school you can name, it was great to get out there where I needed.” In addition to Dayton, interest for Maloney came from Northeastern, UMass-Lowell, William and Mary and Columbia. |
