Max Zajec 1B / RHP / Wellesley, MA / 2020Rankings StateRank: 18 / POS: 1
WELLESLEY, Ma. - The summer before junior year at Wellesley started the same way as previous summers for Max Zajec. There was no college interest. But the Future Games changed all that and the 18th-ranked 2020 in New England, who played on Team Massachusetts at the August PBR event, is now talking with prestigious academic schools. “The process really started for me after the Future Games,” Zajec said. “It was really good for exposure for me and things took off after that. I did alright, I had some competitive at-bats.” And the recruitment of Zajec followed. “It’s what I’ve been waiting for my whole life,” Zajec said. “It’s so awesome. It’s cool to be in the process with coaches watching and talking to you.” It has the top-rated junior first baseman in New England on the right track of where he wants to go. “Academics is huge for me,” Zajec noted. “I’m trying to use baseball as a way to get into a school.” A visit to Dartmouth and interest from Columbia, Penn and William & Mary has the 6-0 195-pound left-handed hitter excited about his future. “They like my swing and that I can play the field a little, too,” Zajec said of the colleges he has talked to in his recruitment. There is more that Zajec can offer a program at the next level. “I’m a hard worker, I always have been,” Zajec pointed out. “Everyday I try to do something to get better ... lifting, swinging or ground balls. I’m also good at keeping a team under control when things start to get a little out of line.” Making improvements in his game is important to Zajec. “I changed my approach,” Zajec explained about where he has gotten better over the past year. “Two years ago I was taking way too many pitches. Now I’m aggressive and less selective and that’s really helped out.” |
