Ben Genser SS / 2B / Rivers School, MA / 2021

NEWTON, Ma. - A big spring was in the plans for Ben Genser.

“It’s the best shape I’ve been in physically and mentally,” the Rivers School junior said. “This spring was going to be huge for me, hitting and defensively. Now that I’m older, leadership-wise I was definitely going to be better.”

But with those ideas on hold due to the coronavirus, the 56th-rated 2021 in New England is focused on his future.

“I was invited to play on the PBR Northeast Select Team and I’m planning on doing that,” Genser noted.

A visit to Tufts took place just before the stay-at-home order.

“I haven’t talked to many schools recently,” related the fifth-ranked uncommitted junior shortstop in New England, who last summer was in conversation with Davidson, Richmond and Columbia.

Genser believes there is a lot he can bring to a college program.

“Definitely hitting, that’s my strongest suit,” pointed out the right-handed hitting infielder, whose exit velo has reached 93.

But there is more that Genser can provide.

“I definitely have a big mouth so I talk alot to my teammates on the field,” Genser said. “Leadership is big with me. That’s a very big part of my game. I make sure everyone is loose and pick them up as much as I can when they’re down.”

A better conditioned Genser is another plus.
