CHELMSFORD, Ma. - At the age of 12, basketball and soccer were the preferred sports of Jack Beauchesne.

That is no longer the case.

“When I was with the Eastern Massachusetts All-Stars as a 12-year-old the coaches really changed my mind on baseball,” Beauchesne reflected. “They changed my point of view on baseball and showed me the real game.”

A couple years later, interest in the next level developed.

“When I was 14, I started going to tournaments in New Jersey and Myrtle Beach,” Beauchesne noted. “College coaches were there and it was then I started thinking about baseball in college. Up until then I didn’t even think of it.”

Exposure this past summer, sparked by the Future Games as part of Team Massachusetts, began to heighten interest in the Chelmsford junior. Colleges like Franklin Pierce, Assumption, Massachusetts Maritime, Albany, Clark and Army have shown interest in Beauchesne, who has also attended camps at Massachusetts-Lowell, Boston College, UMass-Amherst, Bryant and Northeastern.

“Most of the schools I went to for camps showed interest after the Future Games,” Beauchesne pointed out. “There was interest from them if I gained some velocity.”

That is something the 6-3 170-pound right-hander has improved at since reaching high school.

“As a freshman I topped out at 79 and last year at 84,” Beauchesne noted. “I’m hoping with lifting and throwing the baseball more I can get my numbers a lot higher. My goal is to get my fastball in the high-80s by the end of summer.”

Playing three sports has held back his improvement to some degree according to Beauchesne.
