The Woodbat Exposure Tournament featured 2020 through 2023 grad teams; with many rosters dotted with up-and-coming top committed and uncommitted grads from Iowa and Nebraska. The tournament was held at various Des Moines locations on October 5 and October 6, 2019.

 

SCOUT BLOG (BY TEAM)

Southeast Polk Rams 16U


  • ‘21 MIF Bennett Wadstrom showcased good hands and footwork at shortstop for the Rams 16U team. Quick transfers on double plays with a physical frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter has a flat bat path producing line-drives to all parts of the field.

  • ‘23 RHP Jarrett Canida threw in relief for the Rams 16U. Works fast from a ¾ arm slot with a quick arm and lean, projectible body. Fastball was thrown 77-80 mph with cut action and slider sat 70-72 mph with a smaller shape.

  • ‘21 C Makale Sercy has a physical, compact frame behind the plate which he uses to keep balls in front of him. Shows some pop in bat with an aggressive line-drive/flyball swing from the right side.


Southeast Polk Rams 18U


  • ‘20 RHP/UTL Kaleb Krier started on the mound for the Rams 18U. Displays above average fastball command, working both sides of the plate. Fastball sat 83-84 mph with arm-side run. Above avg. curveball has sharp, late break 70-72 mph. Changeup sat 75-76 mph with good fade action.

  • ‘22 1B Matt Rivers has a big, physical frame with strength in the bat as a RHH. Mid/pull approach with bat speed. Showed adequate footwork around the bag at first.


Central Nebraska Baseball


  • ‘21 LHP/1B Cal Higgins started game one on the mound for CNBA. Big, athletic frame whose fastball sat 78-80 mph with heavy life and arm-side run. Curveball sat 62-64 mph with tight 2/7 shape. Clean arm action, producing plenty of swing and miss with room to gain velocity with added strength.

  • ‘21 OF/P Easton Bruce has an athletic, agile frame in CF. Smooth LHH with rhythm at the plate. Mid/pull approach with the ability to drive the ball and run. Gets a good first step in the OF, making accurate throws with average carry.

  • ‘22 MIF/P Dylan Welsh played 2B for CNBA in game with athletic, lean build making plays with good footwork and glove. Uphill bat path from the left side, looking to elevate the ball, hitting an opposite field triple to LF.

  • ‘20 C Nick Carlson swung the bat well all game for CNBA. The right-handed hitter has a clean, line-drive/flyball swing using all fields to drive the ball. Agile behind the plate, blocking and receiving well while making strong throws down to second with a 2.04 pop time.


Nebraska Prospects 2022 Blue


  • ‘22 OF Graham Johnson showed his ability to cover a lot of ground in CF with a good first step on balls hit in the air. The switch hitter has an aggressive line-drive swing looking to make contact and run. Small lead-off hitter build, making consistent contact over the weekend.

  • ‘23 C Jaxon Schumacher has an athletic, strong build behind the plate. Makes strong, accurate throws down to second recording a 2.11 pop time. Receives well helping his pitchers get some calls. At the plate, showcased bat speed and strong wrists hitting a double to LCF.

  • ‘22 MIF Grant Hatcher played 2B for the Nebraska Prospects 2022 Blue. Good glove and footwork on balls hit to him. Switch hitter, from the left-side has a compact line-drive swing using all fields. Athletic frame and smart aggressive base-runner.


Nebraska Prospects 2023


  • ‘23 SS Drew Covalt played shortstop for the NE Prospects 2023. Displayed good actions in the field with adequate hands and feet. Easy line-drive swing with a middle of the field approach.

  • ‘23 UTL Jack Neeman showed strength in his swing, hitting a double to LF and a hard single up the middle. The RHH hitter has an athletic frame with a simple, line-drive/flyball swing. Uses his lower half well to generate some power. 

  • ‘23 LHP Kellen Burns started on the mound for the NE Prospects 2023. Long, lanky frame with a loose arm and some whip. Fastball sat 72-74 mph with varying action and curveball sat 58 mph with 2/8 break. Should continue to gain velocity with added size and maturity.


Iowa Sticks Wagner


  • ‘23 MIF Carter Vanhorn of Iowa Sticks Wagner has a long, lean build at shortstop. Athletic actions in the field throwing from a ¾ arm slot. At the plate, has a quiet set-up with a flatter bat path, looking to drive balls up the middle.


Iowa Sticks Plummer


  • ‘23 OF Eli Elcock of Iowa Sticks Plummer displayed a compact right-handed swing in the box with the ability to produce bat speed. Moves well in the outfield, getting good reads on the ball with a strong arm and good accuracy on his throws. 

  • ‘23 C Kole Sonnenberg did a majority of the catching for Iowa Sticks Plummer. Quiet movements with good receiving skills. Blocks okay and will continue to improve as he fills out. Crouched stance at the plate with flat bat path and mid/pull approach.


Iowa Sticks Zrostlik


  • ‘23 RHP/INF Tyson Schlicher of Iowa Sticks Zrostlik has a long, lean frame with room to fill out. At the plate, swings it from the right-side using all fields to drive the ball. On the mound, fastball sat 67-69 mph with length that produced some whip. Curveball was 55 mph with a big 10/4 shape.


Iowa Sticks QC/DSM


  • ‘20 MIF Noah Weiman (Parkland JC commit) displays an advanced approach at the plate staying within himself. Executed a hit and run perfectly to the right-side of the field. Strong wrists produce bat speed and has lift in his swing. Clean fielding actions with good footwork. Aggressive on the bases, getting good reads off the pitcher and on balls in the dirt.


Primetime 16U


  • ‘22 LHP Gage Coulter started on the mound for Primetime 16U. Long high ¾ arm action who effectively worked both sides of the plate. Fastball sat 72-74 mph with arm-side run. Hits from the left side with rhythm and a mid/pull approach.

  • ‘22 RHP Trent Dirks threw in relief for Primetime 16U. Long, lanky frame with whip in his arm. Fastball sat 70-72 mph and changeup sat 65 mph with sink. Gets good extension down the mound and should throw harder with increased maturity.

  • ‘22 MIF/RHP Noah Findeis displayed a smaller, lean frame at shortstop for Primetime 16U. Has smooth hands and clean footwork while making plays to his glove side and backhand. On the mound, fastball sat 73-75 mph and curveball 62-63 mph with 11/5 shape. Uses his lower half well to generate explosiveness down the mound.


Tigers 16U


  • ‘22 MIF Brandon Sullivan has an athletic, projectable frame at shortstop for the Tigers 16U. Adequate footwork and actions in the field with strong throws and accuracy on throws to first. At the plate, the righty has an upright stance and flat swing producing line-drives with a middle of the field approach.
