Prep Baseball Report Nebraska

The Nebraska Top Prospect Showcase was an opportunity for 2017, 2018 and 2019 prospects from Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota to showcasetheir talents in front of our scouting staff and 20+ college coaches in attendance. Prep Baseball Report's Nebraska Top Prospect Showcase event took place on Sunday, 22nd, 2016 at Ultimat Omaha Westside High School in Omaha, NE. Thank you to the players, parents, staff and Westside HS Head Coach Bobby Greco for such a great event. Westside HS offers some of the finest facilities in the Midwest..

There were breakout performances, opportunities to see new players, and gave PBR Nebraska the opportunity to create an extensive follow list of prospects to see over the course of the summer. Many individuals, as well, placed themselves into the fray for our 2017 and 2018 state-wide player rankings which will be released in the future.

Brett Winkelmann, Millard West, LHP 2017
6-foot 1, 155-pound left-handed pitcher topped out at 80 mph with his fastball. Tall-lanky frame that will continue to add strength as he develops. Repeatable simple mechanics with a clean hand break. Aggressive front side that stays closed. Arm has a tendency to get long on back side. 69-71 mph changeup had run and showed some feel for a 58-60 mph breaking ball with tilt.

Dylan Nicholson, Papillion LaVista, RHP, 2017
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed pitcher who topped out at 81 mph with his fastball. Two-piece arm action with short stroke on the backside. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Max effort front side and falls towards first base. Tight spinning 69-70 mph 11/5 breaking ball with some depth. Front side yank when spinning breaking balls. Changeup was thrown from strikes with fastball arm speed.

Peyton Wendell, Millard West, RHP, 2018
6-foot-4, 160-pound right-handed pitcher who topped out at 77 mph with his fastball. Tall lanky frame that projects to continue to develop velocity. Controlled delivery on mound with solid balance and direction. Avg. extension to plate- opens up on front side. Over-the-top slot with occasional downhill action on fastball. Projects to continue to develop velocity. Flashes sharp break on 11/6 breaking ball. Avg. fade and action on changeup.

Mark Timmins, Omaha Central, RHP, 2017
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed pitcher who topped out at 81 mph with his fastball. Wide hips, strong lower half. Good tempo, low effort delivery with athleticism. Ball hops out of the hand. Fastball is commanded well on a downhill plane. Spins an above average 11/5 breaking ball with good depth. Changeup runs into his arm side with a clean actions. High pitchability guy that should continue to develop.

Hunter Waugh, Omaha Burke, RHP, 2018
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed pitcher who topped out at 84 mph with his fastball. Durable frame. Clean repeatable mechanics with athletic finish. Ball comes out of hand with little effort. Arm is short and quick on the backside and long out front. Had some feel for 65-68 mph breaking ball. When release is out front has a chance to be an above average pitch. Changeup was thrown for strikes in the 73-76 mph range.

Benjamin Crnkovich, Papillion LaVista, RHP, 2017
6-foot-2, 200-pound submarine pitcher who topped out at 78 mph with his fastball. Athletic feel. From the wind up, fast ball shows varying cut, sink, and running actions. 70-71 mph slider shows some depth but lacks side to side movement. From the stretch, fastball showed more traditional sinking action to the arm-side. Mechanically, front side leaks early but repeats mechanics and stays online towards the plate.

Thomas Webster, Omaha Gross, RHP, 2017
6-foot-9, 195-pound right-handed pitcher who topped out at 81 mph with his fastball on a steep downhill plane. Throws from mid ¾ arm slot with a long finish out front. Shows body control for size. High leg kick with foot outside knee. Slight collapse in delivery with hips tending to open early. Shows fastball at 79-81 mph with downhill plane and throws strikes. Flashes solid breaking ball when on top and out front at release. Above avg. feel for changeup with occasional run.

Connor Bedell, RHP, Davenport Central (IA), 2018
6-foot-1, 165-pound frame with a strong lower half. Showed a simple, repeatable delivery with rhythm and loose 3/4 arm slot. Fastball was 82-84 mph, topping out at 86, all with arm-side life. Also showed an average breaking ball at 68-71 mph. Upper-level feel for his changeup at 72-74 mph, it has consistent arm-side sinking action and sells it well with fastball arm speed.

Thomas Tewes, Lincoln Lutheran, RHP, 2017
6-foot-5, 210-pound athletic right-handed pitcher who topped out at 86 mph with his fastball. Ball comes out of hand well. Stays tall in delivery with a clean hand break and long finish out front.
