Week of July 6th 

OrthoNebraska Antlers (Elkhorn) vs. Hickman (Norris) 

  • Dakota State signee Brandon Kyriss threw a solid 4 innings to start for Otho. Kryriss struck out four, walking two and surrendering one run. His fastball sat in the mid 70’s and showed advanced feel for 64-66 mph breaking ball. Easy clean repeatable actions on the mound and ball comes up from a high ¾ slot. 

  • Northeast CC signee Tyler Monroe (SS, Hickman) had a solid night in the middle infield for Hickman. Monroe has advanced actions and is sure-handed with his glove. Monroe's arm and  lean athletic build should allow him to stay in the middle of the field at the next level. 

  • Trey Frahm (RHP/1B, Ortho) had a two run homerun in the first inning while Eaden Holt (MIF,Norris) and Crowley County signee Joel Benes (1B,Norris) hit back to back homeruns in the top of the 7th. 

  • One of the top uncommitted arms in the ‘21 class for Nebraska, Bryson Schultz had an up and down outing on the mound for Hickman. Schultz has an athletic build and was up to 87 mph from a mid ¾ slot, sporadic command of the zone but still punched out 5 in 3 innings. 71-72 mph change-up was his best secondary offering with downward action in the strike zone. 

Five Points Bank Jr. Jays (Creighton Prep) vs. Pinnacle Bank (Lincoln Southwest) 

  • Iowa Western CC signee Calen Protaskey (C,2020) hit a walk off sac fly in the bottom of the 7th for the win for Prep. Protaskey also added two RBI triple in the 6th inning after staying on an 87 mph fastball into the right field gap. 

  • Uncommitted ‘22 Ryan Bauer (CIF, Creighton Prep) was solid across the board at both corner spots in the infield. Bauer has an athletic 6’1, 185 pound frame with good barrel control and a simple approach at the plate that led to a pair of hits and a RBI on a squeeze bunt in the 6th. 

  • Uncommitted ‘21 Max Sanders (RHP, Creighton Prep) made the start on the mound throwing 5 innings giving up no earned runs and punching out 6. Sanders has a physical 6-foot-2 frame with broad shoulders, arm works from a high ¾ slot that is compact on the backside, ball gets on a downhill plane. Slight crossfire delivery.  Fastball topped at 83 with his also showed potential with a 71-74 mph slider with avg. spin. Hutchinson CC commit picked up the win in relief striking out 3 in 1.2 innings. Loucks pounded the zone and was up to 84 with his fastball. 

  • Quiet night at the plate for Pinnacle Bank but we did get to see a solid group of right handed uncommitted 2021 arms with Dylan Cox, Jacob Oehm and Telo Arsiaga. Cox, was up to 83 from his long and loose H ¾ slot, 71-72 mph change up has a chance to be a +plus pitch and has heavy action down in the zone. Oehm, a compact 5-foot-9 150 pounds, dominates the strike zone with a 83-84 mph fastball and 70-72 mph 10/6 shaped breaking ball. He’s got an uptempo delivery with a slight crossfire across his body. Oehm is one of the better under the radar prospects in the 2021 class as he continues to develop physically. Arsiaga got hit around more than Cox and Oehm but still showed a live arm sitting consistently in the 85-88 mph range. Fastball was flat but consistently around the zone.
