Prep Baseball Report Nebraska's Elite 50 event took place on Sunday, May 20, 2018. The event was held at Westside High School in Omaha, NE. The event featured select prospects from the 2019, 2020 and 2021 grad classes; and included many breakout performances from the player's in attendance. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches; while also playing 14 innings. 

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the PBR NE Elite 50. 

As we drill down into the statistics: (40 players in attendance)

+   30 players ran sub-7.2 60's.
+   27 players recorded 85+ mph exit velocities
+   13 players recorded 80+ mph infield throws
+   11 players recorded 80+ mph outfield throws
+   6 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+   6 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+   19 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

Outfield Reports 

 

Garrett Kennedy OF / 2B / Millard West, NE / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 17 / POS: 4 6-foot-1, 175 pound outfielder ran an event best 6.45 60 yard sprint. Ranked #18 in Nebraska 2019 rankings. Lean long limbs, athletic build.  Early hitch load, settles down to swing, spray hitter, gap to gap approach, shows some barrel control. Posted an 82 mph exit velocity off a tee. In the outfield, made two solid plays during game portion, quick transfers, short arm action, topped out at 77 mph to the catcher. MVP of the Elite 50, went 3-3 with two doubles, a triple, and a walk.

 

 

Tyler Palmer OF / SS / Columbus , NE / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 1 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 192 / POS: 35 6-foot-1, 165 pound two way player ran a 6.58 60 yard sprint. Ranked #1 in Nebraska 2020 rankings. Lean wiry build with some present strength. At the plate, narrow base, okay hands, shows some pop in bat, gap to gap approach, average round of BP. Posted an 91 mph exit velocity. Topped out at 88 mph from the outfield with a long arm action, athletic movements, throws have carry. Ok actions in the infield, threw accurately across topping out at 85 mph. Went 2-5 in the game portion of the Elite 50 at the plate. On the mound topped out at 84 mph, fastball was straight, some effort in delivery, occasional life. Ball jumps through the zone. 62-65 mph breaking ball is loose with 11/5 shape. 69-72 mph change up has tumbling action.  Elite level athlete for the Nebraska 2020 class.

 

 

Ryan Mendez RHP / OF / Millard North, NE / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 6 / POS: 1 6-foot-1, 170 pound left handed hitting two way player ran a 7.26 60 yard sprint.  Ranked #6 in the Nebraska 2020 rankings. Lean athletic build. Clean bat path. Works middle/away. Hardest contact to middle of the field, line drives during round of BP. Posted an 80 mph exit velocity off a tee. In the outfield, fields on the side of the ball, cut action on throws, avg. carry to the target, topped out at 85 mph to the catcher. Went 0-2, with two walks during the game portion of the Elite 50. On the mound, topped out at 85 mph with his fastball. Loose arm, high ¾ with cut action on fastball. Tight spinning 75 mph slider with 11/5 shape. Some funk in delivery adds deception with above average stuff for his age.

 

 

Alex Rodgers OF / 3B / Omaha Roncalli, NE / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 6 / POS: 1 5-foot-11, 175 pound outfielder ran a 6.6 60 yard sprint. Athletic build with present strength. Three sport standout for Omaha Roncalli. Ranked #6 in Nebraska 2019 rankings. Simple swing, short to contact, gap to gap approach, avg. pop. Line drive contact. Raw movements. Posted an 83 mph exit velocity off a tee. Went 1-4 with a walk during game action. In the outfield, clean actions, solid carry and accuracy to target topped out at 84 mph to the catcher.

 

 

Aiden Young 2B / OF / Elkhorn, NE / 2021 5-foot-8, 175 pound outfielder ran a 6.53 60 yard sprint. Athletic compact frame. Raw pop in bat, gap to gap approach, stiffness in hands, linear barrel path. Posted an 81 mph exit velocity off a tee. In the outfield, average feel, arm action has some funk, topped out at 77 mph with lack of accuracy and carry. Went 0-4 in his plate appearances during the game portion. Posted a .453 batting average this spring at the varsity level. Strong follow as he continues to develop mechanically.

 

 

Tyler Ruhl OF / RHP / Norris, NE / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 4 / POS: 2 6-foot-2, 175 pound two way player topped out at 87 mph on the mound. Ranked #4 in Nebraska 2020 rankings. Long athletic build. 85-87 mph fastball has a running and sinking actions from a mid ¾ slot. 65-67 mph breaking ball has 11/5 shape with depth. Repeats well, shows athleticism in delivery. Ran a 6.87 60 yard sprint. At the plate, short to contact, all fields approach, line drive/fly ball contact during round of BP. Posted an 88 mph exit velocity off a tee. Throws were online from the outfield topping out at 86 mph with carry.Went 1-4 at the plate during his plate appearances at the event.  High follow prospect for the 2020 class on the mound.

 

 

Jake Leger LHP / OF / Lexington, NE / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 14 / POS: 4 5-foot-11, 175 pound two way player ran a 6.94 60 yard sprint. Ranked #14 in Nebraska 2019 class. Three sport athlete in Lexington. Compact athletic build. Hitchy load, shows pop in bat when on time during round of BP. Line drive contact to all fields. Posted an 89 mph exit velocity. Went 0-3 in his plate appearances at the Elite 50. On the mound topped out at 83 mph with his fastball. Long arm action, loose out front. High ¾ gets on a slight downhill plane with running action to his arm side. Above average shape on 12/6 breaking ball. Hard spilt action on knuckle ball.

 

 

Jackson Kraus RHP / OF / Lincoln Southeast, NE / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 10 / POS: 2 6-foot,185 pound two way player topped out at 86 mph with his fastball. Ranked #10 in the Nebraska 2020 rankings.  Pie arm action, varying cut and sink to the plate, good tilt/crossfire to breaking ball, 11/5 shape with break across two planes. Ran a 6.82 60 yard sprint. Crouched stance, stiffness in movements, avg. barrel control, middle/away approach, soft fly ball contact during round of BP. Went 0-3 in game action during the Elite 50.  Posted an 87 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions in the outfield, above average arm with carry to the catcher that topped out at 86 mph. High follow on the mound for the 2020 class.

 

 

Cole Evans OF / SS / Grand Island , NE / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 8 / POS: 2 6-foot-1, 200 pound outfielder ran a 6.82 60 yard spring. Creighton commit. Athletic physical build with present strength. Narrow base, spins through contact, bat has pop, best contact during round of BP to the right center gap when he gets extended. Posted an 92 mph exit velocity off a tee. Went 1-3 in game action with a walk. Topped out at 88 mph from the outfield. Clean actions, quick transfers, throws were online to home plate.

 

 

Quinn Mason RHP / OF / Gretna, NE / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 11 / POS: 3 6-foot-2, 195 pound two way player topped out at 89 mph with his fastball. Ranked #11 in Nebraska 2019 rankings. Project-able frame, long clean arm action. Sat in the 87-89 mph range. Tight spin on 11/5 breaking ball with late depth. Tumbling cut action on change up thrown with fastball arm speed. Ran a 6.77 60 yard sprint. Middle away approach at the plate, okay pop, tendency to pull off the ball at contact. Posted an 93 mph exit velocity.  In the outfield, feet work well, above average actions, topped out at 90 mph to the catcher.

 

 

Sayer Diederich LHP / OF / Elkhorn South, NE / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 3 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 336 / POS: 45 6-foot, 180 pound two way player ran a 6.71 60 yard sprint. Ranked #3 in Nebraska 2019 rankings. Nebraska commit. Short load, easy actions, spray contact to all fields. Posted an 90 mph exit velocity off the tee. Above average actions in the outfield, light on feet, moves with fluidity. Online throws with carry, topped out at 90 mph to the catcher. Went 1-2 in game action with two walks in his plate appearances. On the mound topped out at 84 mph, sat in the 81-84 mph range. Fastball has late life, running actions. Sporadic around the zone, Tight spin rate on 1/7 breaking ball, shows the ability to back-foot right handed hitters.
