Since the initial rollout of the 2027 Overall Rankings last December, a full slate of preseason events combined with the spring high school season has provided the Prep Baseball staff ample opportunity to evaluate and discover the budding talent of this once freshman class. Whether it was the eye-opening metrics and movement patterns from showcases or the impact of bats, arms, and gloves on varsity teams, this group gave plenty to get excited about. 

With that, this modest list expands to 300 talented ballplayers from across the country. There are sure to be numerous names added, as it ultimately will grow to 500 prior to graduation day. Prep Baseball, always in pursuit of the most credible information and evaluations in the industry, stands strong in its certainty that boots-on-the-ground staff will be eagerly discovering any advancements and new players that may come. But until then, a look a look at the newly minted 2027 Overall Rankings below:

A new look Top 10 saw three new members although the 1A-1B at the top remains the same. #1 OF Lash Henderson (Prestonwood Christian Academy, TX) and #2 SS/P Chase Fuller (Lincoln HS, FL) maintained a sturdy presence at the top after phenomenal freshman springs that saw the two dynamic right-handed hitters look the part as future impact bats with high ceilings. Lash, a 6-foot-4, 200-pounder features a mature approach from the right side with eye-opening exit velocities and big power potential. Similarly Fuller possesses a pro-ready, 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame that still maintains considerable future development. For as gifted as he is and with the present production, the future potential might be the brightest aspect of the Panhandle product.

Graham Keen (April 2024)

Do-it-all performer, OF/3B/P Graham Keen (Mt. Lebanon HS, PA), jumps to #3 overall thanks to the perceived limitless upside that his athleticism and tool-profile provide. Far from physically developed, the 6-foot-5, 185-pound switch-hitter possesses one of the sweetest strokes (both sides) in the class with a flat path that provides endless lag with present power production. A fluid athlete who unleashes throws up to 97 mph with the same power arm on the bump, the scouting community was greeted to an introduction to Keen this spring as he played alongside 2024 MLB Draft prospect, LHP David Shields. Entrenched in a program that has produced many future prospects at Mount Lebanon, Keen is on a potential path to continue a storied track record for the Pittsburgh-area school.

The emphasis placed on discovering left-handed starter-potential arms is a big reason why #4 Jared Grindlinger (Huntington Beach HS, CA), #5 Rylan McMahan (Clay HS, FL), and #9 Connor Salerno (Legion Collegiate, SC) are featured so prominently in the Top 10. Each possesses an ease of movement with right now stuff that is only outpaced by tomorrow’s potential. Already equipped with 90-plus mph fastballs, these quick-armed athletes with fluid movement patterns show no signs of slowing down, and are ahead in an arms race that will ultimately be dictated by the development of their arsenal and honing of their pitchability.

Jacob Seamon (April 2024)

Similar to the aforementioned Keen, Top 10 newcomer, #6 Jacob Seamon (Metrolina Christian Academy, NC) possesses one of the most projectable frames in the class at 6-foot-4, 175-pounds. The long-limbed, left-handed hitting outfielder enjoyed a successful freshman campaign that showcased a mature approach to go along with a real hit+power profile while manning center field. A stoic presence in the box holds commanding traits with the innate ability to slow things down while getting off swings with controlled aggression. Should his development continue its upward trajectory, Seamon, who is also one of the youngest players in the class, might rise even higher in the future.

At #8 in the class, RHP/OF Landon Green (A3 Academy, FL), provides one of the more fascinating profiles. An outlier with regards to arm talent, the athletic, 6-foot-1, 175-pound right-hander is already up into the mid-90s with an electric fastball that pairs well next to a sharp slider and quality changeup. Far from just brute force, Green is an exceptional mover on the mound with a loose arm and projectable frame that might ultimately have another jump in velocity on the way. Adding to his intrigue on the diamond is the considerable upside as a position player with a fluid right-handed stroke. In short, Green is a dynamic talent that warrants following closely the next few years.

Caden Dawson (March 2024)

Closing out the Top 10 are #7 OF Caden Dawson (Blessed Trinity HS, GA) and newcomer #10 SS Max Hemenway (Puyallup HS, WA). Dawson immediately stepped into a role of being one of the most feared hitters in the talent-dense state of Georgia thanks to a no nonsense approach and ability to be perpetually on the barrel. Spraying firm contact to all field, the “hitterish vibes” perpetuate his presence in the box, and the angry, hard-working aura that he plays the game with bodes well on his future development.

Hemenway, a Tennessee recruit, stays athletic on the move with the ability to maintain body control on the dirt with a strong arm that might allow him to stick at shortstop long term. However, the bat is what propels him up into the Top 10 as the left-handed hitter showcased the ability to drive the ball from gap-to-gap, throughout the spring, with a high likelihood of developing future power. Square-shouldered with a 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame that still projects, the confident Washington native has the foundation set for making substantial forward strides in coming years.
