Trackman Hitting Leaders: NC ProCase

Zach Boraski
North Carolina Assistant Scouting Director

The Prep Baseball North Carolina ProCase has become a must see event for area scouts that cover North Carolina.  The 6th annual event was held on Sunday February 11th at Diamond Xtreme in Kernersville, NC.  With over 30 of the top prospects from North Carolina's 2024 and 2025 grad classes in attendance, the 2024 ProCase was set to be one of the best in the event's history.  The 2024 roster drew over 30 professional scouts to Kernersville for the workout.

The day kicked off with the catchers going through their defensive workout, followed by 16 bullpens from top arms in the state.  As the pitchers finished their work on the mound, Prep Baseball scouts ran the participants through an athletic workout taking measurements on height, weight, grip strength, 30yd dash, and vertical jump.  Following the athletic testing, players went through multiple rounds of BP in the spacious setting at Diamond Xtreme.  The cage area allowed scouts to see the ball fly over 100 feet off the bat.

TrackMan was used during the bullpens and BP sessions with screens setup for the pro scouts to see the analytics in real time.  BLAST sensors were used during BP as well, allowing Prep Baseball Scouts to capture and share swing metrics on each hitter.  Below we begin the deep dive on the 2024 North Carolina ProCase with a look at some of the stats from the day.

PEAK EXIT VELOCITY

TrackMan is able to track every ball hit into fair territory, throughout the BP sessions.  Below are the exit velocities produced by individual players.

AVERAGE EXIT VELOCITY

The average exit velocity measures a players ability to consistently produce hard contact.  The average was taken based on every ball tracked by TrackMan throughout the player's BP session.

HARD HIT PERCENTAGE

TrackMan is able to track and follow exit velocities of each hitter.  Based on the individual's top exit velocity, TrackMan is able to give us a percentage of hard hit balls.  This percentage is based off of each individual hitter's top exit velocity.

LAUNCH ANGLE PERCENTAGE

Based on the ball flight, TrackMan is able to identify each hit as a ground ball, line drive, or fly ball.  While there are many factors as to why a hitter may approach each pitch in a certain way, the overall groupings of BP can give some insight to each hitter's approach.
