Prep Baseball was at McCrary Park in Asheboro, NC on Saturday November 2nd and Sunday November 3rd for the Fall Top Prospect Games.  Saturday featured the Underclass event, with players from the 2027 and 2028 classes.  Sunday the 2025 and 2026 grads participated in the Upperclass event.  Designed for top uncommitted players in North Carolina, there was plenty of talent on hand for each day of the event.

Players opened their day with body measurements, grip strength testing, jump tests, and their offensive workout.  Defensive workouts were next, with players working out at the positions of their choice, giving scouts a chance to see their movement, arm action, arm strength, and feel for the glove. Players followed their defensive testing with a laser timed 60 yard dash.  VALD Performance lasers were used to capture the 60 time, plus a 10yd and 30yd split.  

Following the workout, players took part in a controlled scrimmage with pitchers facing live hitters.  As the game concluded a "machine" scrimmage gave the hitters more at-bats and position players a ton of defensive reps.  Prep Baseball scouts were on hand and will be reporting on player performance throughout November, and into the spring season.

Nicholas Quinones OF / RHP / Swansboro, NC / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 291 / POS: 57 Solid Speed and strength combo in his game. Chance to develop more power. Solid bat speed and barrel feel.

Lucas Riley OF / SS / Ledford, NC / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 133 / POS: 26 Advanced runner with above average power metrics present. Short, direct path from the right side. Two hits in live game action. Athletic frame suggests there is room to his ceiling. Right handed hitting outfielder that could impact a roster early.

Jahdier Rodriguez C / OF / Charlotte Catholic, NC / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 287 / POS: 33 Player that has continued to improve over the past three years, making an effort to address deficiencies. Willing receiver and blocker. Good presence behind the dish. Right handed hitter is geared to lift the ball. Pull side emphasis. Two hits in live game action.

Nolan Winnek C / 3B / Camden Military, NC / 2025 Strength present in the frame. Right handed hitter with flat path. Solid barrel feel. Accurate arm from the crouch with quickness in the release and average carry.

2026 Grads

Jack Bolte 1B / OF / Cardinal Gibbons, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 172 / POS: 11 Phyiscal presence with broad shoulders. Right handed hitter has strength. Works for extension. Pull emphasis. Ball jumps to the pull side when on the barrel. Showed backside power in game action with deep fly ball to right.

Jeter Bynum LHP / OF / Pine Lake Prep, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 192 / POS: 16 Lean frame. Solid mover. Vertical bat gets flat through the zone from the left side.  Solid whip while working to get extension.  Two hits in game action.

Judah Cannon OF / SS / Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 209 / POS: 40 Right handed hitting outfielder. Solid strength at the point of contact. Average to above bat speed. Doubled in game off the left field wall.

Crawford Elrod 3B / SS / Westchester Country Day, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 134 / POS: 9 Athletic frame. Solid mover. Right handed hitter. Above average bat speed and barrel feel translated to solid power working gap to gap. Line drive to Center accounted for a triple in live game action.

Trevor Friend OF / RHP / Wake Forest, NC / 2026 A big winner from the event. Good athlete. Moves well. Showed quickness and feel for the barrel. Frame suggests there is plenty of room to his ceiling in the coming years. Loose and stable in the box. Works flat through contact with a gap to gap, line drive approach. Wants extension. Solid power to the pull side.  Three barrels and four hits in four at-bats in live game action.

Frankie Gilchrist II OF / Jordan, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 137 / POS: 25 Strength present. Left handed hitter. Solid mover. Good rhythm in the pre-pitch and swing. Ball jumps with authority when on the barrel.

Cassius Grimsley OF / RHP / Fuquay-Varina, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 125 / POS: 22 Lean frame. Strength present. Room to his ceiling. Right handed hitter was rushed through the load in BP a bit, but much more calm with solid rhythm in live game action. Doubled and tripled in game action, driving balls to left field.

Gavin Jackson 3B / 1B / American Leadership Academy - Johnston, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 160 / POS: 10 Physical presence. Solid mover. Power potential in the box from the right side. Stength is apparent at contact. Right handed hitter has good bat speed. Barreled two balls in game action.

Caleb Johnson OF / 1B / Bunn, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 129 / POS: 23 Lean frame. Strong hands. Has twitch. Left handed hitter. Loose with whip through the zone. Bat speed stands out. Has ability to drive the ball to either gap. Defensively, took solid routes with complete trust in his tracking and finishing ability on fly balls.

Peyton Kozink RHP / SS / Jordan, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 112 / POS: 36 Good athlete. Lean frame. Strength and quickness apparent. Plays with rhythm defensively. Solid feet and clean releases. Right handed hitter. Loose in the box with good rhythm.

Jaxon Mabe 3B / 2B / Uwharrie Charter Academy, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 196 / POS: 14 Lean frame. Solid mover. Right handed hitter. Good bat speed. Easy rhythm. Works for extension. Two triples to Center, in live game action, showing carry off the bat and the ability to change gears on the bases.

Read Morton OF / 2B / Leesville Road, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 180 / POS: 36 Lean, athletic frame. Solid mover with lateral quickness. Also showed advanced straight ahead speed. Athleticism transfers to defensive actions. Right handed hitter works with good rhythm and "sneaky" pop off the barrel.

Jack Piccini C / 1B / Pro5 Baseball Academy, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 158 / POS: 20 Athletic catcher checked a bunch of boxes throughout his workout and game play. Right handed hitter is strong and quick. Direct path. Flat through the zone. Good rhythm and ball to barrel ability. Solid run times and lateral quickness showed on defense. Some length in the exchange behind the dish, but the ball has excellent carry and there is feel for the bag.

Weston Rhem OF / RHP / Needham Broughton, NC / 2026 Average build. Lean. Plenty of room for continued strength gains. Right handed hitter. Direct path. Worked gap to gap. Several balls jumped to the pull side.

Andrew Riedel C / OF / Cardinal Gibbons, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 208 / POS: 27 Average build with strength and athleticism present. Solid bat speed produced solid power numbers. Pull emphasis. Works with intent.  Has quickness behind the dish. Willing blocker.

Tanner Waugh C / SS / Mooresville, NC / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 246 / POS: 33 Average build. Youthul look to him. Right handed hitter. works flat through the zone. Good barrel to ball feel. Inside-out approach, short to the ball in BP. Carried the approach into live game action, using the entire field. Doubled over the left fielder's head.
