Prep Baseball was at McCrary Park in Asheboro, NC on Saturday November 2nd and Sunday November 3rd for the Fall Top Prospect Games.  Saturday featured the Underclass event, with players from the 2027 and 2028 classes.  Sunday the 2025 and 2026 grads participated in the Upperclass event.  Designed for top uncommitted players in North Carolina, there was plenty of talent on hand for each day of the event.

Players opened their day with body measurements, grip strength testing, jump tests, and their offensive workout.  Defensive workouts were next, with players working out at the positions of their choice, giving scouts a chance to see their movement, arm action, arm strength, and feel for the glove. Players followed their defensive testing with a laser timed 60 yard dash.  VALD Performance lasers were used to capture the 60 time, plus a 10yd and 30yd split.  

Following the workout, players took part in a controlled scrimmage with pitchers facing live hitters.  As the game concluded a "machine" scrimmage gave the hitters more at-bats and position players a ton of defensive reps.  Prep Baseball scouts were on hand and will be reporting on player performance throughout November, and into the spring season.

Class of 2027

Carter Huff SS / OF / Reagan, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 37 / POS: 7 Athletic switch hitter with excellent ball to barrel ability from both sides.  Plays with pace.  Solid defender that is still working toward a potnetially high ceiling on the infield. Advanced athleticism with quickness and twitch apparent.

Weston Sykes SS / RHP / Wesleyan Christian Academy, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 65 / POS: 13 Lanky athlete that is beginning to build toward his ceiling.  Increased hand-eye and quickness from our last look. Beginning to add strength to a frame that screams projection. Setup to have success as he continues to add strength and quickness.

Thomas Jolly C / 1B / Carson, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 118 / POS: 15 Thin frame. Young face. Lots of growth ahead. Showed ability to carry his BP swing into game action. Solid quickness. Agile and quick behind the dish. Solid feel for accurate throws.

Brandon Bush OF / RHP / Hoggard, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 35 / POS: 8 Uber athletic right handed hitting outfielder.  Dynamic mover. Quickness translates into the box. Strength at contact. Line drive approach. Excellent rhythm.  In game, two barrles including a double to the pull side.

Caleb Neal 2B / OF / Wake Forest, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 61 / POS: 2 Right handed hitter with good rhythm and feel for the barrel. Three barrels in game including a single and double to start his day.

Harrison Mears C / SS / South Brunswick, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 49 / POS: 8 Dynamic athlete with unique blend of strength and quickness. Flat swing from the right side. Natural loft should come with maturation. Good feel for the barrel. Athletic behind the dish with solid carry in the arm. Athleticism will allow him to be a true utility as needed.

Jaylen Witherspoon OF / LHP / West Forsyth, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 58 / POS: 15 Athletic outfielder that posted numbers across the board at the event. Athletic build with projection left to fill in the coming years. Right handed hitter with solid feel for the barrel and good rhythm throughout his swing. Two barrels in live game action including a double into the left-center field gap.

Giovanni Buccino 1B / RHP / West Forsyth, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 33 / POS: 2 One of the biggest risers in the 2027 class through 2024 had another day that stood out.  The bat plays at a very high level, showing an ability to get the barrel to good fastballs while also carrying over power potential to in game production.  BP saw Gio banging balls over the wall.  In game saw Gio banging several balls off the wall. Continues to improve his footwork and agility around the bag.  Will be a player to follow into the spring of 2025.

Logan Daniel 2B / SS / Rolesville, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 90 / POS: 4 Right handed hitter showed good rhythm throughout his approach and swing. Still young, power will continue tick up as he adds strength to the frame. Flat path carried over a line drive approach from BP into game action.

Thad Parker SS / 2B / Cleveland, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 89 / POS: 20 Athletic right handed hitter. Pull emphasis with excellent barrel feel and rhythm. Some natural loft through contact allowing balls to carry into the gap. Three barrels resulted in 3 in-game hits. Defensively has solid upside with the potential to stick at shortstop as he moves further into his career.

Hunter Kisse OF / C / Wake Forest, NC / 2027 Thin frame with upside as he continues to fill out a lean frame. Solid setup and tools. Should see big growth with his current setup as he continues to mature and adds strength to the frame. Tripled in game on a line drive to CF, showing an ability to run on the basepaths. Willing and wanting receiver behind the dish.  Athletic mover and good bend in his hips.

Asa Foster LHP / 1B / Chapel Hill, NC / 2027 Left handed hitter. Young frame. Lots of maturation ahead. Pitcher first. Solid swing is setup for success as he adds quickness. Showed ability to use all fields, doubling in game to left-center field.

Owen Cho C / OF / Homeschool (NC), NC / 2027 Stock frame with strength present. Good rhythm throughou the pre-pitch and swing. Solid barrel feel.  Gap to gap approach. Flat swing works to produce line drives, carried over with some ease into game action.

Chace Blackmon OF / 3B / Ambassador Christian, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 32 / POS: 7 Broad shoulders. Defined muscular strength in the lower half. Athletic with strenght in the hands from the right side. Chance to drive the baseball.  Bat speed still building. Simple setup and approach. Consistent contact in BP. Gap to gap approach carried over into game play. Speed over quickness, but has taken big jumps in his defensive ability in the past year.  Intriguing future to follow.

Landen Smith C / RHP / Homeschool (NC), NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 100 / POS: 12 Broad shoulders. Strength present. Natural loft in the swing with the potential to have a power output. Pull side emphasis. Works for extension. Two hit and two barrels in the game action.  Solid athleticism behind the dish. Arm has carry. Willing blocker and receiver.

Christian Xavier Romine 3B / RHP / Union Pines, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 34 / POS: 4 Physical prsencen with strength present in the swing and at contact. Ball jumps off the bat. Pull gap approach. Works for extension. Ball really carries when it has back spin. Raw power tool is advanced for the grad year.  Defensively has made gains in his lateral movement. Average bend. Hands works with some confidence. Arm has carry.

Amaury Gonzalez SS / 2B / Apex, NC / 2027 Youthful look. Athletic mover. Frame will handle strength. Right handed hitter with a swing that should translate to more damage as he adds strength. Solid quickness and barrel feel. Moves with some ease defenisvely. Good lateral instincts. Soft hands. Arm should grow as he continues to mature.

Benjamin Bernard 2B / RHP / Green Level, NC / 2027 Athletic with strength present. Solid baseball instincts. Showed an ability to move around the field and still play with high end instincts. Right handed hitter with good quickness and solid barrel feel. Middle of the field approach carried over to game play.

Baines Raynor OF / 3B / Eastern Carolina Academy, NC / 2027 Good athlete. Excellent quickness. Has a fluidness to his game. Swing has natural loft with the quickness. Carried BP approach over to game play. Plays with better pace than his final 60 time. Solid to advanced defender. Very comfortable tracking the ball to either gap.

Casey Murray RHP / OF / Middle Creek, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 73 / POS: 16 Lean frame. Loose swing with solid rhythm. Positioned to add impact with some ease as he continues to add strength to the frame.

Mason Brewer SS / 3B / Purnell Swett, NC / 2027 Good athlete. High motor. High level of instincts. High level defender that moves well laterally. Athletic exchange and relese. Good feel for the speed of the game. Right handed hitter. High barrel feel. Solid power and carry from an average frame. Strength and quickness present.

Ethan Street C / 3B / Corinth Holders, NC / 2027 Right handed hitter. Solid quickness and carry off the barrel. Good bend behind the dish. Willing receiver and blocker.

Tyler Wright RHP / 3B / Hickory Grove Christian, NC / 2027 Right handed hitter with solid carry. Steep in and out of the zone created backspin. Solid defender with ease in the release.

Logan Meinster OF / RHP / Cave Spring, VA / 2027 Filled the stat sheet in the workout and game play. Scored well across the board in BP with bat speed, swing path, rhythm, barrel and power potential. Bat will lead the prospect. Potential impact player as he continues to mature.

Banks Woody C / 3B / North Raleigh Christian Academy, NC / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 25 / POS: 4 High end prospect with strength and quickness in the bat plus an arm with advanced carry behind the dish. Loud BP, banging balls off the wall. Excellent carry to the pull side. Willing receiver and blocker with an arm that stands out.
