Sr. Future Games: Quick Hitters on NC Arms with Team Mid-Atlantic
August 8, 2024
From Wednesday, July 24, through Sunday, July 28, Prep Baseball is hosting the next edition of its prestigious Future Games at LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, Ga., featuring the country's best uncommitted talent. And, for the first time ever, the Future Games is hosting not just its typical set of incoming juniors and freshmen, but also a 17U division of uncommitted Class of 2025 players who will participate in the inaugural Senior Future Games.
On the first day of the 2024 Future Games, all players representing grad classes 2025, 2026, and 2028 will be participating in a pro-style workout in front of a fleet of Division I coaches alongside fellow prospects representing nearly every state in the nation.
Today we take a look at some of the top performances from workout day with Team Mid-Atlantic's North Carolina players. These players took part in the Sr. Future Games and several players put up eye popping numbers. North Carolina was well represented by this group of players.

TEAM MID-ATLANTIC - NORTH CAROLINA ARMS QUICK HITTERS
JD Mace RHP / OF / COMBINE ACADEMY, NC / 2025Rankings StateRank: 51 / POS: 19
Physical presence at 6-foot-6 with solid direction and some uphill leverage as he leaves balance working through an over-the-top slot. Showed an ability to spin the baseball with fastball spin rate above 2400rpm for most of the outing. For the big frame, he has present pitch-ability. Stuff has continued to grow over the past 3 years and there are signs that there is more to come. High level competitor that created issues for hitters with his fastball / slider combo.

Dylan Gastley RHP / 1B / West Stokes, NC / 2025Rankings StateRank: 48 / POS: 18
6-foot-3 with strength in the lower half. Controlled and stable over the rubber. Repeates with solid direction and some ease through his release. Arm strength is present. Showed flashes of control and command with an ability to attack to both sides of the plate. Stuff has a chance to get outs at a high level, but also shows feel for pitching and game control.

Cannon Lee SS / RHP / Pro5, NC / 2025Rankings StateRank: 33 / POS: 5
Athletic presence. Pitcher only at this event but has seen interest as a Shortstop as well. Threw for Team Mid-Atlantic on slightly short rest after a dominating performance at the 17U National Championships at LakePoint. Advanced feel for spinning the baseball, creating ride on the fastball with a hard, downer breaking ball that got freeze in the zone and chase out of the zone. Intriguing follow as the athleticism suggests there is a ton of room to his ceiling on the bump.

Cooper Phillips 2B / RHP / Homeschool (NC), NC / 2025Rankings StateRank: 103 / POS: 2
Earned his way to LakePoint after showing a unique consistency to his game through the summer, with outings at the NC/SC Border Battle and the Team Carolina Trials East. Pitch-ability allows the fastball to play up. Flashed the ability to work in and out and elevated later in counts, getting swing and miss in and out of the zone. Elevated fastball sets up a window for a devastating hard, downer breaking ball that baffled hitters in this outing. Two solid innings of attacking the zone on a big stage. One of the better outings of any arm at the Sr. Future Games. Punched 4 in his outing.

Isaiah Abrams OF / LHP / West Craven, NC / 2025Left handed pitching is a commodity and arm strength is a commodity. Abrams has both. We have seen the arm up to 95 from the outfield. While he only carried 84-85 in this outing, it is easy to see there is more in the tank. Impressive ability to pitch off his breaking ball, landing a big 1/7 breaker throughout the outing. Programs will be buying the upside. Should be an interesting follow into the fall as he continues to make strides on the bump. |
Case Gibbs LHP / Metrolina Christian Academy, NC / 2025Rankings StateRank: 77 / POS: 7
Big time pitch-ability with a three pitch mix and the ability to move, and manipulate the fastball. The offering has already captured a state title, with several big performances throughout 2024. Present ability probably out weighs the overall potential of the ceiling, but Gibbs possesses feel for his stuff and for game managemnet, allowing him to compete for early innings at the next level. Short arm action and over-the-top slot created some deception, allowing the fastball to play higher than the gun reading.
