Quick Hitters: East Coast Baseball Pitchers
October 20, 2023
On Wednesday October 7th PBR of North Carolina was on hand at First Flight High School on the Outer Banks of NC for a Scout Day with East Coast Baseball. The Scout Day featured players from the 2024-2028 grad classes.
The day started with catchers going through a defensive workout, followed by pitchers throwing a controlled bullpen with Trackman collecting ball flight data. After the pitchers, the position players ran a laser timed 60 then took BP on the field with Trackman gathering ball flight information. The night concluded with outfielders and infielders going through a defensive evaluation.
Below we begin our breakdown of the players in attendance. Look for more information to follow in the coming days.
Quick Hitters - Pitchers
Strong build at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds. Continues to impress in front of PBR Scouts. Attacks the strike zone. Quick arm with a high ¾ slot. Fastball worked in the 84-85 mph. Breaking ball has top to bottom action at 73-75 mph. Mixed in a split with tumbling action. Shows feel for all 3 pitches. Has a competitive presence.
6-foot, 170-pound frame. Worked only from the stretch. Filled up the bottom of the zone with his fastball at 83-84 mph. Changeup tunnels with his fastball and has fading action to his arm side at 78-79 mph. Flashed a breaking ball at 72-73 mph. Long arm action with an over the top release, velocity should increase as the body adds strength.
5-foot-9, 155-pound frame. Fastball worked in the 78-80 mph range consistently getting it to the bottom of the strike zone. High ¾ slot with some quickness through release. Has feel for his breaking ball with 12/6 tilt at 62-64 mph. Flashed at changeup at 69-70 mph. Velocity should rise as he continues to get stronger.
Long, lanky frame at 6-foot-4, 170-pounds. Worked to the bottom of the zone with all 3 pitches. Creates some deception working slightly across his body, uses a high ¾ slot, gets angle to his glove side. Fastball sat at 75-77 mph. Breaking ball has some length working to his glove side at 61-64 mph. Flashed at changeup at 64-69 mph.
6-foot-2, 170-pounds with room to fill out in the coming year. Fastball worked at 74-76 mph. Breaking ball has depth at 60-61 mph. Mixed in a changeup at 67-69 mph. Works slightly across his body with a high ¾ slot. Arm has some quickness and should see his velocity climb as the body matures.
5-foot-5, 110-pound frame with plenty of room for maturation ahead. Threw a ton of strikes during his bullpen. Fastball worked in the 60-62 mph range. Curveball has 12/6 tilt at 52-53 mph. Showed at changeup at 57-58 mph. Long arm action with an over the top slot. Velocity and stuff should tick up as the body matures.
