Prep Baseball was at Moor Park in Mooresville, NC on October 17th for the Queen City Fall ID and the Dry Pond Scout Day.  Both events were run at the same time, allowing our scouting staff to see players in an athletic environment.  The Fall IDs are open to all high school players in North Carolina, while the Scout Days are organized and hosted by the organization.

The day began with players going through their athletic testing.  Players ran a laser timed 60, with 10yd and 30yd splits. The Fall ID players followed the running with testing grip strength testing and vertical jump testing. Offensive evaluations were next, for all players, with players hitting off a Jr. Hack Attack, going through multiple rounds of BP.  TrackMan, and BLAST for the Fall ID players, were used to get advanced metrics on each hitter's swing and the ball flight off the bat. Following the offensive session, players worked out at their defensive positions and then pitchers threw controlled bullpens.  The entire day was captured on video and player profiles will be updated with a highlight video of the workout.

Queen City Fall ID: BLAST Motion Swing Metrics

During Fall ID events, Prep Baseball Scouts arm each hitter's bat with BLAST sensors.  The sensors relayed analytics on each swing with pre-contact metrics. Scouts are looking for bat speed, bat path, contact rates, and working to separate why some hitters have success and others may struggle. The BLAST metrics give advanced analytics to those working to grade hitters.  The metrics also allow hitters to understand their strengths and weaknesses.  While each analytic is a good data point, to understand each hitter, coaches, scouts, and players need to understand how the numbers work together.
