Prep Baseball Scouts were on hand at North Raleigh Christian Academy in Raleigh, NC on August 24th for the Prep Baseball Scout Day with Purpose Driven Baseball. Players from the Purpose Driven program in the 2025 & 2026 grad classes went through the workout. The day began with a laser timed 60 followed by an offensive rotation and evaluation. TrackMan tracked ball flight throughout the multiple rounds of BP taken on the field. Following BP, players worked out at their defensive positions. Pitchers then threw controlled bullpens.

Purpose Driven Baseball Scout Day: Data Dive
EXIT VELOCITY
TrackMan is able to track every ball hit into fair territory, throughout the BP sessions. Below are the best exit velocities produced by individual players, by category.
Max Exit Velocity
Best Average Exit Velocity
DISTANCE OFF THE BAT
TrackMan is able to measure and track the ball while in the air. For every fair ball put in play it will display the distance the hit traveled.
Peak Distance - Best of the Hitter’s Session
Average Distance - Average of each ball tracked in the Session
SWEET SPOT PERCENTAGE
TrackMan is able to track and follow how hard the ball is hit as well as the angle off the bat. With this information, TrackMan has deduced the Sweet Spot as batted balls hit with a launch angle of 8 - 32 degrees.
LAUNCH ANGLE PERCENTAGE
Based on the ball flight, TrackMan is able to identify each hit as a ground ball, line drive, or fly ball. While there are many factors as to why a hitter may approach each pitch in a certain way, the overall groupings of BP can give some insight to each hitter's approach.

FASTBALL STATS
Peak Velocity
Average Effective Velocity
Effective velocity is taking into account the velocity of each pitch, its release distance, the pitches time to the plate / hitting area, and the pitches movement. With all of this information, Effective Velocity is allowing coaches and scouts to more accurately compare how a pitch is affecting a hitter.
Peak Spin Rate
Average Spin Rate
Average Induced Vertical Movement
Induced vertical movement tracks how the ball rides through the zone, or sinks through the zone. For the purpose of this board we are tracking which fastballs showed the most ride, typically leading to more swing and miss opportunities
Average Horizontal Movement
Horizontal movement is often referred to as run. This measurement does not distinguish between early and late movement, just the overall amount the ball tracks to the arm side out of the hand.
Peak Spin Score
The Spin Score is a measurement linking velocity and spin. It is calculated by dividing the spin rate by the velocity of each pitch.
CURVEBALL STATS
Peak Velocity
Peak Spin Rate
Average Spin Rate
Average Induced Vertical Movement
This is a measurement of how much the ball drops from its original position and trajectory. It does not measure how late the movement happens. This can be referred to as depth on a breaking ball.
