Each year the month of February in North Carolina is a big one for baseball players.  With the high school spring season coming, and the off-period of November and December, players have had some time to work on their strengths and improve their weaknesses.  They have been in the weight room and in the cages.  As we enter February, Prep Baseball begins its work to continue to identify and update our notes on prospects in North Carolina. 

The Preseason All-State events have become spotlight events in the state.  This year there are 3 opportunities for some of the best players in the state to show-off their off-season gains, while working out with other top talents.  Prep Baseball will be in Greenville, NC on February 3rd, Maiden, NC on February 4th, and Kernersville, NC on February 10th.  The Prep Baseball scouting staff is expecting to see 250 of the top players in North Carolina across these three events.

Below we profile a player that is scheduled to attend a Preseason All-State event.

PRESEASON ALL-STATE SPOTLIGHT: AUSTIN FEDERSPIEL

Austin Federspiel RHP / 1B / East Forsyth, NC / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 71 / POS: 25 KEY STATS +86(mph) Max Fastball Velocity  +22.5(mph) Max Hand Speed +95.3(mph) Max Exit Velocity +1901(rpm) Avg Fastball Spin Rate  SCOUT NOTES Imposing 6'3"-250lb frame on the 2025 uncommitted RHP/1B at East Forsyth High School. On the mound Austin uses his frame to throw downhill with run and a very deceptive arm action, fastball is up to 86 but has the frame to add more. Has above average feel for this secondary pitches, change up and slider, changeup has good run like his fastball which plays well with his slider out of the same arm slot. In the box Federspiel has a rock back load with quiet hands that really stay inside the baseball. 95.3(mph) max exit velocity from the right side and an 83(mph) arm from first base, 1.52(sec) 10 yard gate gives the big man an above average first step at his size. Austin has been popping up on our stat sheets early in the spring season for East Forsyth and will be one to follow over the summer and going into his senior season.
