Prep Baseball of North Carolina is pleased to announce the hiring of two assistant directors of scouting.  Zach Boraski will help cover the state of North Carolina and amateur baseball, with an emphasis on the eastern side of the state.  Patrick Johnson will also assist in covering the state of North Carolina with an emphasis on the western side of the state.  Both Boraski and Johnson have a significant history within the state of North Carolina and will be huge assests to Prep Baseball moving forward.

Brandon Hall remains as the Director of Scouting for North Carolina and the Mid-Atlantic.  Boraski and Johnson replace Matt Payne who took a job in scouting within Major League Baseball.  Matt was a huge part of the growth of Prep Baseball in North Carolina.  While we are sorry to see him leave we are excited for his future in scouting and in baseball.  We will continue to be fans of Matt and will be watching his star grow.

Zach Boraski - NC Assistant Director of Scouting

Boraski is no stranger to Prep Baseball as he has been part of the scouting and event staff for several years, assisting with player rankings, team rankings, player evaluation and event management.  Boraski is a graduate of Fuquay-Varina HS where he played baseball.  He continued his baseball career at Lenoir Community College and then Averett University.  Following his playing days, Boraski earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Memphis.  

Boraski headed back to his high school alma mater after finishing his playing career at Averett.  He was named head coach in 2018, leading the Tigers to a 51-27 record and two NCHSAA 4A State Titles in 2018 & 2021.  Along with coaching at Fuquay, Boraski has been on the summer and fall circuit, helping players from the Triangle develop in rolls with multiple travel organizations.

Beginning in 2017, Boraski began to scout talent in the Carolinas.  He held associate scout roles with the NY Mets (2017-2021) and then with the LA Angels.

Boraski's talent evaluation skills, plus his ability to communicate with young players will be highly valued as he enters his role with Prep Baseball North Carolina.

Patrick Johnson - NC Assistant Director of Scouting

Patrick Johnson may be a very familiar name to high school and college baseball fans in North Carolina.  The St. Stephens HS grad moved on to continue his playing career at the University of North Carolina where he was a part of 3 College World Series teams.  In 2011, Johnson went 13-2 with 125 strikeouts in 113 innings for the Tarheels.  For his efforts Johnson was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 25th Round.  

Johnson played in the Rockies, Pirates, and Marlins organizations before moving into player development.  Since retiring from the field Johnson has been sharing his knowledge while working with youth and travel organizations.  He also opened and ran the Top Velocity Charlotte location, diving into pitching metrics, development, and evaluation.  Johnson will be heavily involved in player evaluation on the western side of North Carolina as his role grows with Prep Baseball.

"While working to fill the big shoes left behind by Matt Payne, Johnson jumped off the page with his knowledge and passion for the game of baseball and for the state of North Carolina.  In speaking with people that know Johnson well, everyone descibed his unique ability to see the game, evaluate players, and help develop players.  Johnson has the ability to understand some of the complex analytics and teaching points, while still being able to relate to the players playing the game.  Having Patrick involved with Prep Baseball North Carolina on a day to day basis is a huge coop for North Carolina, but potentially an even bigger success for the players he will have the chance to come in contact with while on the road evaluating and at Prep Baseball events."
