Zach Boraski
North Carolina Assistant Scouting Director

Inside the Rankings is a unique look through the eyes of Prep Baseball scouts, allowing players, fans, and coaches to get to know some of the top players in the state of North Carolina.  Rankings in the state are updated almost quarterly, as players are transitioning from one season to another.  Prep Baseball scouts will use the information they gain from Prep Baseball events, Prep Baseball Tournaments, game coverage, workouts, and practices to put grades on as many players in the state as possible.  With over 400 players in each graduating class committing to play college baseball from North Carolina, this is a state with a ton of talent.

Cannon Lee and Michael Gurganus are both strike throwers with stuff to go with it. Ranked in the top 30 RHP's of the 2025 class and are both uncommitted. Lets take a look at why these two are ranked whre they are.

Inside The Rankings

Cannon Lee SS / RHP / Pro5 Baseball Academy, NC / 2025

KEY STATS
+  88 mph Fastball Max Velo
+  15.1" Changeup Max IVB
+  2327 RPM Curveball Max Spin Rate

SCOUT NOTES

Lee is a physical RHP from Pro 5 academy. With good athleticism and arm speed easy to dream on what the velo is going to be. The ability to throw 3 pitches in the zone to both sides of the plate what helps stuff play up more than the numbers show. Lee sits 84-88 with a plus change up that plays off his fastball well.

Michael Gurganus RHP / 3B / Bear Grass Charter, NC / 2025

KEY STATS
+  87 mph Fastball Max Velo
+  2533 RPM Slider Max Spin Rate
+  2500 RPM Curveball Max Spin Rate

SCOUT NOTES

Gurganus with a very simple repeatable delivery is one of the top strike throwers in his class. Fastball ranging 83-87 and playing up due to the ability to locate to both sides of the plate. Throws the Curveball more now with 1/7 tilt and velo ranges in the low 70's, the slider longterm might become the top breaking ball due to shape and velo combo.
