Charlotte Catholic continued their hot play, earning a win on the road at Cox Mill on Monday night.  Senior RHP Jack Hedrick took the ball for Catholic and paced the senior laiden team to the next round.

The top of the Charlotte Catholic lineup got on the board in the first inning.  Sam Hucko and Nathaniel Schwartz each earned walks.  With two outs, a Cooper Gornet single plated Hucko.  Jack Hedrick went to work from that point.

Hedrick worked into the 6th inning throwing 63 of his 98 pitches for strikes.  Hedrick gave up 3 hits and 2 walks, striking out 9.  Only a couple of times in the 5.2 innings of work did Cox Mill threaten.  At those junctures, Hedrick dialed up his best stuff, featuring a hard, boring fastball, paired with a tight, late, and at times explosive breaking ball that created swing and miss in the zone and chase out of the zone.

With Hedrick rolling, Catholic would look to put the game away in the fourth.  Two singles started the inning and after a strikeout, a walk to leadoff hitter Sam Hucko loaded the bases. Evan MacIntyre hit a SAC Fly to push the lead to 2-0.  A pickoff attempt with runners on 1st and 3rd rolled down the right field line, scoring one and moving the runner from 1st to 3rd.  Schwartz drove that run in with a ground ball, giving Catholic a 4-0 lead.

Catholic would add another insurance run in the 6th.  As Hedrick exited the game, Sr Brody Roderick entered and continued to keep the Cox Mill lineup handcuffed.  Broderick fired the final 4 outs without surrendering a base runner.

Cox Mill sees their season come to an end at 20-5 and winners of the Greater Metro 4A Conference.  Charlotte Catholic moves to 22-8 and will play the winner of Marvin Ridge vs. Alexander Central in the 4th Round later this week.
