Future Games: Team NC vs. Team VA

From Wednesday, July 24, through Sunday, July 28, Prep Baseball is hosting the next edition of its prestigious Future Games at LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, Ga., featuring the country's best uncommitted talent. And, for the first time ever, the Future Games is hosting not just its typical set of incoming juniors and freshmen, but also a 17U division of uncommitted Class of 2025 players who will participate in the inaugural Senior Future Games.

On the first day of the 2024 Future Games, all players representing grad classes 2025, 2026, and 2028 will be participating in a pro-style workout in front of a fleet of Division I coaches alongside fellow prospects representing nearly every state in the nation.

Today we take a look at some of the top performances from workout day, from within Team NC.  Several players put up eye popping numbers.  North Carolina was well represented atop the national leader boards with their day at LakePoint..

GAME 3: TEAM NORTH CAROLINA vs. TEAM VIRGINIA

TEAM NC PITCHERS

Charlie Shaver RHP / North Stanly High, NC / 2026

Shaver is an arm that developed the ability to pitch followed by an increase in stuff.  He is athletic and has the ability to flood the zone with a solid 3 pitch mix.  As much as he is ready to compete now, attacking hitters in a variety of ways, it is the upside that is coming that is extremely exciting.  Peaked at 88 in this outing, getting swing and miss in the zone with all three pitches while facing a very good Team VA lineup.

 

Noah Rhoades LHP / OF / Holly Springs, NC / 2026

The presence of Rhoades on the bump will gather eyes immediately.  It is obvoius he has been in the weight room and he is very familiar with the squat rack.  The lower half is equipped to handle a large portion of his workload.  The fastball worked at 88, jumping on hitters with an IVB of 19-20in.  Rhoades created uncomfortable swings with his fastball elevated in the zone and above it.  The secondary stuff has promise and should be able to work out of the window of the fastball.  Rhoades did not give up a hit and punched one in his two innings of work.

 

Nic Stutzman RHP / SS / Stuart W. Cramer, NC / 2026

Stutzman is a very intriguing right hander.  High energy with a clean, quick arm through a high-3/4 slot will create a lot of projection in the minds of coaches.  Stutzman punched two with a Fastball / Slider combination, but it is the change-up that may create the most difficulty for hitters at the next level.  There is hand speed and aggression with late fade, tunneling off a similar path from the fastball that was up to 92.

 

Anthony Zezza LHP / OF / Holly Springs, NC / 2026

A high feel for pitching, this lefthander was a bit of a change of pace off the power arms that threw ahead of him.  Zezza showed an ability to pitch off his fastball, moving it in and out, and showing an ability to elevate as needed.  The breaking ball has natural bend with a change of speed.  The change-up was featured as the 3rd pitch, but the metrics suggest it has a chance to be a high level out pitch.  The path and late movement may allow Zezza to throw the change-up as much off its movement pattern as he does off the change of speed.  Zezza worked innings, limiting base runners while striking out 1.

 

POSITION PLAYER NOTES

+ Brady Marconi (C, Ardrey Kell HS) was very competitive in three at-bats, working two walks.  The catcher also flashed excellent carry between innings and with a live runner in game, popping under 2.10 in game with several under 1.95 between innings.

+ Riley Cuddy (OF, Grace Christian) filled up the stat sheet during the workout and pre-game BP.  A physical presence, he showed in game 3 that he can handle the bat and take what he is given.  Staying on off-speed away, Cuddy piered a line drive to right for a single at 98mph off the barrel.  The power is real and as the hit tool develops he will have the ability to drive the ball to all fields with authority.

+ Harrison Ailshie (OF, East Rowan HS) continued to be a threat in the Team NC order.  With two hits on the day, it was the pull side double to the gap for the left handed hitter that drew gasps from the on-looking crows.  Ailshie took an 88mph fastball just above the zone, getting the barrel above the baseball and ripping it to right-center.  The hit tool is real and it is advanced.
