No. 7 Hayden Summers

Hayden Summers (RHP/SS, Northwest Guilford HS, 2020) is a UNC commit that made a big splash early in 2019 with his performance at the 2019 PBR NC ProCase.  Summers continued to impress throughout the spring season, including his performance at the prestigious NHSI in Cary, NC.  Into the summer, PBR Scouts were able to continue to follow Summers' play at the East Coast Pro Showcase workout and again at the State Games of North Carolina and the South Atlantic Border Battle.

Summers is scheduled to attend the 2020 PBR NC Procase on February 9th and he will be a follow for pro scouts into the spring season.  Below is a look at his complete profile including evaluations, stats, videos, and all the articles he was a part of last year.

Scouting Report

2/10/19

North Carolina commit.  5 foot 11, 175-pound athletic build.  Athletic ability stands out in all phases of his game.  Ability to drive the ball to right center field stands out during batting practice.  Athletic and balanced from the right side of the plate.  Smooth load against his back side.  Hands get ready in a cocked position with some bat angle.  Loose hands, with his barrel staying inside the ball and in the zone a long time with good extension out front.  Fluid swing with above average bat speed.  Exit velocity recorded at 90 mph.  Plays light on his feet with easy actions at shortstop.  Soft hands and fluid feet work together.  Did not throw from the infield after throwing on the mound earlier in the day.  Recorded a 4.00 in the 30-yard dash.
Starts from the windup with a short step to the side with a slight pause before going into his leg lift that works to the bottom of his chest.  Slightly across his body to the plate with his lower half.  Long, loose, easy arm works down and back behind him after break.  Uphill shoulders to the plate, throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Changed timing in the delivery at times with a longer pause.  Filled the zone up with his fastball that sat 90-92 mph with across angle to his glove side.  Feel for his offspeed stuff.  Breaking ball at 73-76 with hard downer action.  Uses a split grip for his change-up.  Some tumble and dive occasionally at 75-77 out of the hand.

08.01.17
Thin build.  Easy actions at shortstop with carry in teh arm.  Lots of projection left in the body as it adds strength.  Direct swing path with a feel for the strike zone.  Needs strength to drive the ball.  Flat with barrel presence.  Athletic on the mound and highly competitive.  Fastball ranged 82-84.  Breaking ball is sharp and tight touching 70.  Strike thrower with command of the fastball.
