Another year is in the books and 2017 brought the first full year of Prep Baseball Report in North Carolina.  While PBR has been around since 2005, the “boots on the ground” philosophy of covering the country by covering each state has created the country’s biggest and most respected independent scouting service. 

In 2017, PBR’s coverage in North Carolina included increased player coverage and the most comprehensive coverage of North Carolina High School Baseball.  PBR ran the NC Baseball Coaches Associations high school team polls, while covering an average of ten games per week.  The hope to expand this coverage in the coming year is in the works.

As we look back at 2017, we can take a look at some of the top viewed profiles on PBR.  Players that attend PBR events receive a full profile which includes a head shot, updated statistical information, a full independent evaluation, and a professionally cut highlight video.  These players are also included in stories to cover the events they attend, driving college coaches and pro scouts to their individual PBR profiles. 

Players can also use the PBR Profile url to send to college coaches and scouts.  With over 800 colleges coaches and universities subscribing to PBR, players can share a trusted, independent evaluation allowing evaluators to become more familiar with their work on the field.

Today we continue our look at the top 15 viewed PBR profiles, in North Carolina, in 2017.  First up are numbers 7-10.

The top viewed profiles from 2017, numbers 7 – 10 include a very talented group of players, each ranked in the state of North Carolina in their class.  It also includes North Carolina’s first participant in the PBR Super 60 professional scouting event.  

Nicholas Jodway is a hard throwing righty who made a decision late in the spring to forego his commitment to a 4-year school to attend Howard JC in Texas, keeping his draft options open for the next couple of years.  He attended the prestigious PBR Super 60 last January, running his fastball up to 95mph.

At the No. 9 position for most viewed profiles in 2017 is a very highly thought of lefty out of Ledford HS, Chris Villaman.  Villaman, a NC State commit, is currently ranked No. 2 in the 2019 class in North Carolina and in the Top 10 Overall.  He will be a name to follow this spring, and into next summer as we begin to prep for the PBR Draft 100 in 2019.

Another NC State commit comes in at the number 8 spot for most viewed profile.  Zachary Hammer is a big right hander with a big arm.  At times the breaking ball showcases as a potential wipe out pitch.  Hammer attended the PBR Preseason All-State event last January, flashing big potential.  As PBR continued to track his progress into the summer, the fastball continued to grow, peaking at 90mph.

The final profile for today, inside the top 10 of most viewed profiles of 2017 is a 2018 catcher, Colby Emmertz.  Emmertz attended the PBR Preseason All-State event in January and followed up a good performance by shining at the PBR Top Prospect Games in July at UNC.  An athletic receiver, with good accuracy, Emmertz has a compact swing from the right side with a good feel for his barrel.  He has committed and signed to continue his career at East Tennessee State University.
