The Performance Academy Scout Day: Quick Hitters

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

Prep Baseball Report was at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs on Monday June 17th to run the PBR Scout Day with the Performance Academy (TPA).  Coming off a busy weekend with several players competing in the State Games of NC, as well as several teams playing in tournaments, some players were limited but it did not stop the overall depth of the program from shining through.

Position players went through a full pro-style workout, running a laser timed 60 on the turf surface, followed by offensive evaluations, including multiple rounds of BP.  During the defensive workout, PBR was able to measure arm strength from a player's position, while evaluating hands, feet, carry, and accuracy.  After the position players, pitchers that were not restricted from their weekend work load were able to throw a controlled bullpen, showcasing their stuff for PBR scouts.

In the coming weeks, PBR will run a complete breakdown on the PBR Scout Day with TPA.  Below, we take a look at some quick notes and player impressions from the event.  Full evaluations are coming but these are some items that stood out during the workout.  To see the complete list of statistics, for each player in attendance, CLICK HERE.

TPA Scout Day: Quick Hitters

Bryan Arendt C / 1B / Holly Springs , NC / 2021

Stat sheet filler.  Posted a 6.83 sixty and 1.97 pop time with a positional velocity of 84 mph out of the crouch.  Also topped at 90 mph in the exit velocity session.  Solid round of BP and continues to separate himself from the pack in the class of 2021.

Payton Bloom OF / SS / Apex Friendship, NC / 2021

Hard contact throughout BP with a simple approach and high barrel awareness.  Ran a 7.00 and showed better than average carry from the outfield with a positional velocity of 86 mph.  Good feet and rhythm on defense.

Gabriel Brewington RHP / 3B / Corinth Holders, NC / 2020

Athletic, large frame.  Has continued to make progress from this same event a year ago.  We like him on the mound, but today he only worked out as a position player and still shined.  Exit velo up to 92 mph.  Simple approach and swing path.  Lots of barrel in BP.  Arm carries with some ease across the diamond.

Alexander Imposimato C / OF / Heritage, NC / 2020

Strength is present in an athletic build.  Balanced working flat through the zone with some pull side pop.  91 mph exit velocity.  Quickness is present with the hands.  Ran a 7.01 sixty.  Accurate throws with a quick release from behind the dish.

Ben Peterson RHP / 3B / Apex, NC / 2020

App State commit did not throw off the bump, after playing in the State Games the previous weekend.  Offensively, the strength in the large, athletic frame translates.  Exit velocity of 87 with leverage through the swing in BP.  From the outfield, posted a 92 mph positional throw, exceptional carry and good accuracy.

Reid Richards C / 3B / Middle Creek, NC / 2020

Athletic frame that will continue to handle strength.  Good approach finding the barrel with some quickness throughout BP.  Exit velo peaked at 87.  Accurate from behind the plate with a pop time of 2.10.

Lukas Schramm OF / C / Apex , NC / 2022

Physical, athletic outfielder.  Ran a 6.92 and recorded a positional velocity of 91 mph from right field with accuracy.  Elite numbers for a 2022 grad.

Richie Van Tassel SS / RHP / Cardinal Gibbons , NC / 2020

Plays with rhythm defensively.  Fluid and athletic through the catch and exchange.  Easy carry across the diamond with accuracy.  Offensively, works to stay in the middle of the field with a flat stroke.

Jacob Coffin LHP / OF / Apex , NC / 2021

Strike thrower with down angle to the fastball, when down in the zone.  Peaked at 83 with more coming soon.

Cameron Williams RHP / 3B / Apex Friendship, NC / 2022

Clean arm with quickness.  Up to 82 with ease and easy to see more is currently in the tank.  Has feel for fastball and change-up.  Sink and fade present on the change.
