Statistical Look: Harvey Baseball Academy Scout Day

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

On Friday February 9th, The Harvey Baseball Academy invited Prep Baseball Report into their facility to run a Scout Day with the pitchers in their program.  Over twenty pitchers were in attendance where they threw a controlled bullpen for PBR staff.  Each pitcher updated his PBR Profile with a head shot and stats from the day.  Select pitchers will receive a full evaluation and video to their profile.

The Bullpen at the Harvey Baseball Academy is a spacious facility allowing pitchers and hitters to get their work done.  The space provides multiple areas for pitchers to stretch their arm and throw bullpens.  The facility is also equipped with technology to allow the Harvey Baseball staff to develop their players with video analysis.

In the controlled bullpens, each pitcher threw out of the wind-up and stretch.  Players are beginning to get ramped up for their spring season, but many are still building arm strength and their pitch counts.  The Harvey Baseball staff scripted the bullpens to ensure the players stayed in their normal routines.

Elijah Carr (2018, RHP, Bandys HS) threw an effective bullpen, sitting 82-84, touching an 85.  He presents an intriguing ability to locate, allowing the overall stuff to play up.

In the 2019 class, Chance DaQuilla (RHP, Mt. Pleasant HS) and Tristan Millsaps (RHP, Alexander Central) touched 85 and 84 respectively.  DaQuilla has a mature frame, working 82-85.  Millsaps is still developing with a young, thin body type.  With a quick arm, he sat 81-83, touching 84.

Jeremiah Wike (2019, LHP, Foard HS) creates a lot of whip from a 5-foot-10, 140 pound frame.  The fastball ran up to 83, sitting 80-82.  He should be an intriguing follow as he continues to get stronger.

Two prospects that stood out from their first pitch were Catawba Valley Community College commit Andrew Patrick (2018, RHP, Bandys HS) and Matthew Upchurch (2019, LHP, Lincoln Charter).  Upchurch, uncommitted, has been to several PBR events since the fall, flashing an athletic arm with a delivery that has a lot of moving parts.  The slider has tight tilt, up to 71, while the fastball works easy at 82.  Patrick touched an event high 87 with his fastball.  The four pitch mix may allow the fastball to play up as well.

The complete statistics from the event is posted below.  In the coming days, we will begin to break down individual pitchers while linking them to their video.
