Brooks Brannon, C, 2022, Randleman
North Carolina recruit. Plenty of strength in a 6-foot, 215-pound frame. Continued his recording season on Thursday with a homerun, double, and 2 runs batted in. Drove the first pitch he saw over the wall in right, doubled down the left field line on a pitch down and in. Bat speed and power continue to stand out. Stays behind the ball, tons of strength in his hands, barrel stays through the ball, can drive the ball to all parts of the field. Leader behind the plate, slides to block balls in the dirt, pop times in the 1.93-1.98 range between innings. Plays hard in all phases of the game.
Trey Way, SS, 2022, Randleman
Virginia Tech recruit. Strong build at 5-foot-10, 180-pounds. Laced a line drive to right center that skipped over the wall for a ground rule double. Sets up with a sturdy base, more weight on the back leg, relaxed hands at the back shoulder, simple load. Compact swing, barrel is short to the ball and stays through the zone. Has strength with above average bat speed. Solid actions on the infield with an accurate arm.
Hunter Atkins, 3B, 2023, Randleman
UNC-Greensboro commit. 6-foot, 185-pound frame with room to add weight. Sets up with a wide, even base, barrel flat over back shoulder, simple load, short stride, hands load slightly down and back. Looks to be short to the ball with his barrel getting length out front. Balanced approach with better than average bat speed. Had a base hit through the 6-hole. Hands work with some ease on the infield, solid actions, accurate arm.
Braylen Hayes, OF, 2022, Randleman
UNC-Greensboro recruit. Quick twitch present in a 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame with room to hold added weight. Hands are quick with above average bat speed. Had a base knock through to left field. Has arm strength from the outfield with accuracy.
Seth Way, OF/RHP, 2024, Randleman
Lanky, athletic frame with room to add strength. Stayed through a ball for solid contact on a fly out that sent the center fielder moving back. Even base, feet outside the shoulders with more weight on the back leg, barrel starts flat over back shoulder, small load, short stride, hands go slightly back. Hands have quickness with a flat barrel path staying through the zone.
Drake Purvis, LHP, 2024, Randleman
NC State commit. Strength present in a 6-foot-1, 210-pound frame. Fastball ranged from 85-89 mph (2100-2200 spin). Fastball has some run to his arm side when down in the zone. Sharp breaking ball at 70-73 mph (2600 spin). Gets hard downward break with depth getting swing and miss. Quick arm and pitches with confidence. Did not allow any hard contact and struck out 11 in 5 innings.
Elijah Sutherland, RHP, 2023, East Gaston
Frame has length with room to hold added weight. Works around the plate with his fastball at 78-83 mph (1800-1900 spin). Sweepy breaking ball at 66-67 mph. Breaking ball comes from a lower slot at times. Average arm speed from a ¾ arm slot.
Nathaniel Roller, C, Green Level HS, 2024
Big body for a sophomore with length and plenty of room to continue to add strength. Stands 6-foot-2, 185 pounds. Above average arm strength. Threw out a runner stealing second with a quick release and accurate throw. Blocks balls in the dirt with ease, soft hands and uses his body to knock down pitches in the dirt. Right handed hitter. Short swing at the plate, went 2-4, barreled up two line drives for a rbi with each hit. Average bat speed. Bat speed should increase with added hand strength and maturation that is coming.
Chris Donaldson, INF/RHP, Green Level, 2024
Big strong body for a sophomore. 6-foot, 190 pounds. Soft hands and an average arm at 3B. Also played 2B during the game and came in to pitch in relief. Solid athlete. Right handed hitter. His short swing resulted in an opposite field one-hopper off the RF wall.
Keller Czech, OF, Green Level HS, 2024
Solid defender playing RF. Good instincts and reads off the bat. Covered ground over each shoulder and with balls in front of him. Good angles with confidence in his hands. Average arm displayed solid feel for accuracy. Right handed hitter still developing. Has a short, direct stroke. Interesting follow as he continues to add strength in the coming years.
