SPRING BREAK NOTEBOOK: JACK SINK TOURNAMENT
PBR's team of scouts are out across the state this week and next as we work to see as many teams and players as possible. On Monday April 11th, PBR was at the Jack Sink Tournament in Charlotte, covering games at South Mecklenburg HS and East Mecklenburg HS. Below are notes on each game and some of the in game coverage. Scout Blogs and player evaluations will be coming soon.
#5 Hough - 14 South Mecklenburg - 6
The No. 5 ranked Huskies in the PBR Power 25 finalized a 4 game week by taking on South Mecklenburg as part of the Jack Sink Tournament. Hough suffered its first loss of the year on Saturday, prior to this Monday matchup.
A tight game through 3 innings, the Huskies blew it open with a 6 run 4th and 4 run 5th. Tyler Baird led the Huskies with 4 hits on the day. Brock Donnelly and Scott Loubier each had 3 hits. Donnelly added 3 RBIs as well.Baird worked into the 4th inning striking out 5, giving up 3 earned runs. James Nesta finished the 4th and worked through the 6th, striking out 5, but also walking 6.
Brody Taylor led South Meck with 3 hits and a run. The South Meck pitching staff surrendered 10 walks on the day.

The @HoughBaseball staff raved about 2022 LHH Brock Donnelly & his ability to find the barrel. Handsy swing that is direct w/ average to above bat speed. Strength at contact. Flat through the zone.

Providence Day - 4 #18 East Forsyth - 6
The Jack Sink continued on Monday as PBR shifted from South Mecklenburg HS to East Mecklenburg HS where several 2022 MLB Draft prospects would be flexing their muscle at the plate.East Forsyth features 2022 1B Xavier Isaac, a Florida commit, in their lineup. The power hitting left-handed hitter paced the Eagles offense from the leadoff position, going 1-2, with a triple, run, and 2 walks. Jimmy Shetzler homered as part of a 4 run 2nd inning. For the day, Shetzler had 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs.
Louisville commit Braxton Stewart worked into the 6th for East Forsyth, allowing 4 runs, 1earned, on 2 hits and 3 walks. He struck out 10 Providence Day hitters.For the Chargers, Hudson Adams and Jake Jeffries each worked 3 innings, combining to give up 6 earned runs on 6 hits. They struckout 5 but did walk 7 hitters. Anderson Shirey paced Providence Day at the plate, going 1-1, with 2 RBIs.
East Forsyth lost their next two games in the Jack Sink, going down 5-1 at Myers Park, and then 2-1 vs. No. 3 Charlotte Christian. Providence Day salvaged their final of 3 games vs. Mallard Creek by a 9-5 score.

East Mecklenburg - 0 #3 Charlotte Christian - 10 (5 innings)
The Knights of Charlotte Christian flexed their depth and their might at East Mecklenburg on Monday. As part of a quirk in the Tournament schedule, the game was played at East Meck, but Charlotte Christian was the home team.Freshman Grant Nicholson worked a complete game, 2 hitter, walking 5 and striking out 8 in the win. The Knights offense saw 6 hitters tally at least one hit. Tanner McCammon and Drew Beard each had two hits, one of McCammon’s was a double.
The big blow of the night came off the bat of Ole Miss commit Judd Utermark as he hit a mammoth home run to left to leadoff a 5 run 3rd inning.East Meck’s Brock Fowler started on the mound, working 2 innings and allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, on no hits. He did walk three and punch 3. Catcher Ryan Hawkins doubled as one of the Eagles 2 hits.
Charlotte Christian swept their 3 games on the week by a combined 30-1 tally. They did need a late comeback vs. East Forsyth on Wednesday to complete the sweep of the Jack Sink. East Meck lost all three games in the tournament, having won 2 of their previous 3 games.
