PBR was on hand at Jack Hughes Park in Pineville, NC on Wednesday to see the two Southern Carolina 3A Conference Tournament semifinals.  Each game featured teams that should be in the state playoffs next week, based on current projections and each team is working to position itself to make a deep run.  The championship game is scheduled for Friday May 3rd at Jack Hughes Park.

Cuthbertson - 4                Marvin Ridge - 5

Game Recap:
In game 1 of the Southern Carolina 3A Semifinals at Jack Hughes Park Marvin Ridge used late runs to turn back Cuthbertson. In a game that was played a very quick pace, pitching seemed to dominate the game into the 5th inning.

Cuthbertson took an early 1-0 lead after a leadoff double from John Melton. Marvin Ridge starter, Tyler Hall would settle in quickly after the 1st, retiring the side in order in 3 of the next 4 innings.

Marvin Ridge would scratch runs in the 4th and 5th off of Cuthbertson starter Noah Weston. The big blow would come in the bottom of the 6th where 5 consecutive Mavericks would reach base, including doubles from Andrew Kerry and Jake Machado. The Mavs would push three runs across pushing the score to 5-1 into the top of the 7th.

Cuthbertson would make a run in the 7th with a 3-run homerun Trevor Grant. With 2 outs and a runner on 1B, Newton hit a sharp single to Michael Neal at shortstop who made a wheeling, helicopter play, throwing on to 1B where a bang-bang call went to Marvin Ridge ending the game with a 5-4 score.

Parkwood -- 0                   Weddington -- 2

Game Recap:
Weddington used a big performance from senior LHP Cooper McKeehan and key hits early to advance to the championship game vs. Marvin Ridge. McKeehan worked into the 7th, surrendering 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 10. Dusty Mercer closed the game in the 7th, earning a save recording 2 outs with one strikeout.

In the first, Mercer doubled to center with one out. Brett Wiseman would single, scoring Mercer with the games first run. The second inning saw the Warriors capitalize on a leadoff walk and an error to plate the game's last run.

Parkwood started 2021 RHP Carson Starnes who competed to work out of a couple of jams. In the 3rd, Andrei Beal releived Starnes and worked 4 innings without allowing a run.
