Quick Hitters: The Canes Scout Day - Pitchers

On Sunday October 30th PBR of North and South Carolina was on hand at Hopewell High in Huntersville, NC for a Scout Day with the Canes Organization. The Scout Day featured players from the 2023-2027 grad classes from both North and South Carolina.
The day began with catchers going through a defensive evaluation followed by pitchers throwing a controlled bullpen with Trackman collecting advanced metrics on each pitch. Following the pitchers the position players went through offensive evaluations that included batting practice on the field with Trackman gathering ball flight data and players running a laser timed 10yd, 30yd, and 60 yd sprint. The day concluded with outfielders and infielders going through a defensive evaluation.
Below we begin our breakdown of the players in attendance looking at some top performers in select stat categories. Look for more information to follow in the coming days.

QUICK HITTERS - PITCHERS
Connor Crenshaw, RHP, Byrnes HS (SC), 2025
Stands 5-foot-8, 150 pounds. Plenty of maturation coming in the months ahead. Athletic right hander up to 78, 2067rpm on the fastball. Heavy arm side run, averaging 15.3 inches out of the hand. Flashed sweeping breaking ball at 68-71, 2538rpm. Some depth with over 17 inches of horizontal break.
Hudson Riordan, RHP, Legion Collegiate (SC), 2027
Strength present at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Fastball elevated throughout at 77-80 with sink metrics, playing true out of the hand. Secondary stuff is still maturing.
Jackson Holmes, RHP, Westside HS (SC), 2025
Average frame. Straight line build. 6-foot, 175 pounds. Fastball up to 80, 2066rpm with sink metrics. Worked the down zone, staying straight from release. Sweeping breaking ball has good length, working early at 63-65, 2107rpm.
Jason Sproull, RHP, Laney HS (NC), 2026
Thin, still maturing with a youthful look at 5-foot-11, 140 pounds. Solid arm speed. Worked the down zone. Fastball played true out of the hand with good ride through the zone at 75-77, 2191rpm. 10/4 tilt to the breaking ball with solid arm speed, peaking at 67, 2094rpm.
Koen Karsa, RHP, Wake County Home School (NC), 2026
Broad shoulders and length with strength present at 6-foot-4, 180 pounds. Five pitches, featuring slider, curveball, and cutter with the change-up and fastball. Each pitch with some distinct characteristics. Around the zone with most pitches. Fastball peaked at 79, 2149rpm. Curveball at 64-66, 1986rpm with length in its 10/4 arc.
Riley Gibson, RHP, First Flight HS (NC), 2025
Lean, athletic frame with quickness present at 5-foot-11, 150 pounds. Still young with a lot of maturation ahead. Arm has advanced quickness through a ¾ slot. Plenty of whip. Erratic at times but works with intent. Fastball up to 85, 2472rpm with heavy run at times. Slider is a potential weapon at 72-74, 2437rpm with horizontal action. Plenty of late length away from the RHH.
Tate Nelson, RHP, New Hanover HS (NC), 2026
Youthful look with a thin frame at 5-foot-11, 125 pounds. Worked to the arm side with most pitches. Fastball has sink and run metrics at 77-78. Secondary stuff is still maturing.
Parker Davis, LHP, Woodmont HS (SC), 2026
Thin build at 6-foot, 145 pounds. Works closed through a long arm swing and over-the-top slot. Back to an on-line foot-strike. Athletic release. Fastball at 80-82, 1886rpm with average ride and run. Short, late 10/4 tilt on the breaking ball at 70-74, spinning up to 2634rpm.
Tanner Ferguson, RHP, Pro5 Academy, 2025
Length in a straight line build at 6-foot-1, 160 pounds. Medium arm action to a high-¾ slot. Solid rhythm and direction. Stuff poised to jump as he adds strength and quickness to the frame. Fastball up to 75, 1830rpm with average to above ride through the zone.
Will Howard, RHP, Emerald HS (SC), 2025
Strength present with broad shoulders at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds. Short arm action working to load the scapular, working to an over-the-top slot. Arm strength over arm speed. Average to above arm speed. Fastball at 81-83, 2234rpm with excellent ride through the zone. Still with average run and a 1:15 spin tilt at release.
Raymond Kastner, LHP, River Bluff HS (SC), 2026
Thin with length in the limbs. Stands 5-foot-11, 135 pounds. Long arm swing, working deep out of the glove. Gets to an over-the-top slot. Average arm speed. Solid direction and rhythm. Positioned to make jumps as he adds strength to the frame and matures. Fastball with heavy run, averaging 18 inches out of the hand at 69-71, 1839rpm. Good arm speed and feel for a change-up that should mature with the fastball.
Preston McGaha, RHP, J.L. Mann HS (SC), 2024
Physical presence at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds. Long, loose arm swing with athleticism through an over-the-top slot. Has whip through release while slightly laid off as he gets to his foot strike. Fastball up to 84, 2217 with some run and good ride through the zone. Solid feel for the arm side.
Davis Rising, RHP, Combine Academy (NC), 2023
Average build with athleticism in the delivery at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds. Loose arm through the low-¾ slot. Average to above arm speed. Fastball with heavy sink metrics at 3.2 inches of induced vertical break, while also averaging 15.2 inches of arm side run. 2:30 spin tilt at release. Showed an ability to pound the low zone in the bullpen. Side to side slider with average to above length, working early out of the hand at 67-68.
Wesley Shipman, LHP, Landrum HS (SC), 2024
Muscular frame, athletic, standing 6-foot, 200 pounds. Uses a hand pump as he works with solid rhythm staying level and on-line. Medium arm swing to an over-the-top slot. Fastball at 79-83, 1991rpm with sink. 12:15 spin tilt at release creating 8.7 inches of induced vertical break. Curveball and change-up both graded out as advanced for the age. Breaking ball spin up to 2340rpm. Top to bottom action with a slight hump through the release. Late with solid depth.
William MaGee, RHP, Gray Collegiate (SC), 2025
Physical presence at 6-foot, 200 pounds. Strength present. Level and on-line throughout the delivery, uses a medium arm swing to get to an over-the-top slot. Loose arm. Solid rhythm. Fastball up to 80, 2080rpm with advanced ride through the zone. Strike thrower that showed an ability to elevate the fastball as well. 11/5 tilt to the breaking ball at 64-66, 1606rpm.
