Quick Hitters: Dry Pond Pitchers

Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director

On Saturday May 20th PBR of North Carolina was at Moor Park in Mooresville, NC for a Scout Day with the Charlotte Megastars and Dry Pond Baseball. The Scout Day featured players from the 2024-2026 grad classes.

The day began with outfielders and infielders going through a defensive evaluation followed by players running a laser timed 60. Position players then took BP on the field with Trackman collecting ball flight data. After BP, catchers went through their defensive evaluation. The day concluded with pitchers throwing a controlled bullpen with Trackman collecting ball flight data.

Below we begin our breakdown of the players in attendance. Look for more information to follow in the coming days.

Average frame. 5-foot-11, 165 pounds. Long arm swing.  Over-the-top slot. Average arm speed. Works through some stiffness at release.  Coils lower half around back hip through balance, working back to on-line and square landing. Fastball at 78-80, 2176rpm. Excellent ride with 12:30 spin tilt at release, staying true with the ride. Good feel and arm speed on the change-up at 74-75, 2052rpm. Change-up plays firm and true through the hitting zone. Curveball at 66-68, 2225rpm.

Holden Woodward, LHP, HIbriten HS, 2025
Thin frame at 5-foot-10, 130 pounds. Long arm action, slight stab out of the glove, working back to a high-¾ slot. Closed through balance, works back to a close to on-line landing. Consistently around the zone with a 2 pitch mix. Fastball at 71-73, 1924rpm.  Breaking ball rolled through a 2/8 tilt, flashing the chance for depth as it firms, ranging 63-65, 2099rpm.  Positioned to see a velocity jump, especially as he begins to mature physically and add strength.
