PBR Scout Days have become a unique source of information for coaches, scouts, and players.  On Thursday August 20th, PBR Scouts were in attendance at JP Riddle Stadium in Fayetteville, NC to host the C35 Baseball Organization.  Thirty-five players from the organization went through the workout, producing some eye-catching numbers.

The workout included a full pro-style workout for position players.  The day began with a laser timed 60 yard dash before moving into the offensive evaluations.  The offensive evaluations included a static exit velocity test, working off of a tee, and several rounds of live BP with Blast Motion and TrackMan securing advanced analytics.  Position players then worked through their defensive positions for PBR scouts.   The day concluded with pitchers throwing controlled bullpens with TrackMan gathering ball flight information.

Below we take a look at some of the pitchers who performed well during the pro-style workout.

• 32 players ran the laser timed 60 on a grass surface that was slightly soft from rain throughout the week
• 2 players ran sub 7.00
• 8 players ran sub 7.30
• 32 hitters went through the offensive workout

QUICK HITTERS - pitchers

 

Camden Bunker (RHP, Pinecrest HS, 2022) – Average frame at 5-foot-10, 172 pounds.  Athletic over the rubber.  Loose and easy arm swing to an over-the-top slot.  Better than average arm speed.  Fastball peaked at 83.  Short, late slider at 74.  Has feel for a change-up with fade.  Change tends to come out hot, sitting 76-77.

Ryder Douglas (RHP, Pinecrest HS, 2022) – Large, athletic frame.  Broad shoulders, standing 6-foot-5, 235 pounds.  Some effort in the delivery working to an over-the-top slot.  Arm strength over arm speed.  Fastball sat 88, touching 89 with 19 inches of induced vertical break.  Average arm speed on secondary pitches.

Skyler Mathis (RHP, Pinecrest HS, 2022) – Strike thrower with solid arm speed.  Over-the-top slot.  Frame is still maturing, standing 5-foot-7, 145 pounds.  Fastball ranged 80-82.  Hard breaking ball with a spin rate up to 2400rpm at 74.  Breaking ball has a chance to create discomfort and swings and misses.

Walker McDuffie (RHP, Lee County HS, 2024) – Bright future ahead of the 5-foot-9, 142 pound righty.  Strike thrower that can spin the baseball.  Fastball up to 78.  Curveball at 62-64 with a 2130 rpm.  Big, 10/4 tilt, showing some feel.  Solid arm speed on the change-up to create some deception.

Lane Roberson (RHP, Scotland HS, 2021) – Sturdy build at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds.  Sink-slider guy.  Created heavy arm side run, with occasional sink when down in the zone, at 84.  Late slider, tunneled with the fastball, sitting 70-71.  Repeats the delivery and window.  Three-pitch guy with solid feel for the change -up at 77.  Hard run on the change as well.  Showed feel for pitching and location throughout the bullpen

Kale Scruggs (RHP, Southern Lee HS, 2023) – Lean 6-foot, 170 pound build.  Athletic.  Simple delivery, repeating slot and release.  Around the zone consistently with all three pitches.  Long, over-the-top slot.  Fastball sat 81-84, touching 86.  Breaking ball is still maturing, up to 69.
