Providence Gets Come From Behind Win Against Reagan
March 7, 2022
Reagan- 10 Providence- 13
The Reagan Raiders visited the #1 ranked Providence Panthers on Saturday March 5th. These two teams met in the 4A Western Final last year with Reagan winning and advancing to the State Title series. Saturday would prove to be another hard fought battle between the two programs.
Reagan got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring on a wild pitch and an Aiden Cluskey sac fly. The Raiders would extend the lead to 5-0 in the 3rd inning on a Nick Lundquist RBI double and a homerun by Carter Boyd. Providence would fight back adding a couple runs on a Tommy Walker hit in the bottom of the 3rd but Reagan would make the lead 6-2 on a solo homerun by Nick Lundquist in the top of the 5th.
After cutting the lead to 6-4 the Panthers seemed to have the momentum swinging to their favor with bases loaded and one out but the Raiders were able to escape the 5th inning with the lead getting a line drive double play to end the inning and regain the momentum. In the top of the 6th inning Reagan would separate again by adding 4 more runs highlighted by an Austin Hawke 3-run homerun to right field making the score 10-4.
The game headed to the bottom of the 7th with Reagan leading 10-5 but Providence was not going to go away quietly. Providence would take advantage of hits, errors and walks getting the score to 10-9 with 2 outs setting the stage for Tommy Walker to complete the Providence comeback hitting a walkoff grandslam to give Providence a 13-10 win.
