Pro Day Coverage: Pro5 Academy
October 4, 2021
On Tuesday September 28th, Pro5 Academy, out of Holly Springs, NC held their Pro Day, allowing scouts from each MLB club, and PBR, the opportunity to see their players in a quick workout with a controlled scrimmage for pitchers to face hitters. With their schedule, not all of the pitchers on the roster threw to hitters, but scouts in attendance did get to see several interesting arms as we ready for the spring season.

The workout started with position players running a 60 on artificial surface. The times recorded were done by a hand-timer. Position players then went through an infield/outfield session allowing scouts to assess actions, rhythm, transitions, and arm strength. From there hitters took multiple rounds of BP. After BP, the live game action commenced with each pitcher throwing a controlled inning vs. live hitters.
Below are some player notes from the day with video of select players. To see the list of players that posted a 60 time, pop time, or threw in the scrimmage, CLICK HERE.
Ryan Clifford, OF/1B, 2022
Vanderbilt commit. One of the top prospects in the country. Left handed hitter has a physical profile with length in the body, standing 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. Has continued to improve his agility and foot speed, running a 6.76. From the outfield the arm showed average carry with a clean, easy exchange and over-the-top slot. The tool that carries Clifford is the bat and it is very loud at times. The consistent barrel feel can improve, with some top spin shots as he got extended, but when on the barrel and creating back-spin, he may have some of the best power potential in the class.
