4A Round 1: Wake Forest at Pinecrest
June 16, 2021
Wake Forest- 3 Pinecrest- 9
Pinecrest hosted Wake Forest in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday night. With both teams ranked in the PBR Power 25, the win or go home format of the North Carolina playoffs, and an exciting atmosphere at the park set the table for an intense matchup.
Wake Forest wasted no time getting started and quieting the crowd scoring 2 runs in the first. Cooper Allen and Kahlil Watson walked to start the inning and quickly got to second and third. Allen scored on a Luke Stevenson sac fly and Watson would score on a line drive double to left center by Isaac Williams.
Pinecrest would get one back in the bottom of the second when Colby Wallace led off the inning with a homerun to center cutting the lead in half. The homerun got the crowd back into it and seemed to shift some momentum back to Pinecrest.
Camden Bunker got things rolling for Pinecrest when he led off the bottom of the 4th with a solo shot to center tying the game. Back to back doubles by Colby Wallace and Ryder Douglas would give Pinecrest a 3-2 lead. Add in a 2 RBI laser to right by JD Scarborough and Pinecrest leads 5-2 after the 4th.
Wake Forest got one run back in the 5th and seemed to be within striking distance until PInecrest added 4 more runs in the bottom of the 6th highlighted by Wallace’s second homerun of the night. With the win Pinecrest will head to Fuquay-Varina for the second round in another matchup of PBR Power 25 teams.
