Prep Baseball Report

The end of July means that the country is getting ready to turn its attention to LakePoint in Emerson, GA for the country's biggest underclass event, the PBR Future Games.  Featuring 400+ uncommitted players from across the country, representing their state or region, with every workout and game played at one 4 field diamond at LakePoint.

Team Carolina will again represent both North Carolina and South Carolina at the 2023 event.  Today we are unveiling the roster for Team Carolina with a brief breakdown of the roster make-up, plus a look at the path Team Carolina will take in Georgia.

Last year Team Carolina went 3-0 while also creating a ton of buzz off of the workout day.  With another big turnout of 400+ college coaches and scouts anticipated for 2023, Team Carolina is set and ready to be the talk of the event again.

Team Carolina Pitcher Preview

Robert Cole RHP / 1B / P27 Academy , SC / 2025

6-3, 185-pound frame with room to gain strength in his projectable frame.  Throws with a High-3/4 arm slot and a smaller, shorter arm swing.   The fastball shows good velo up to 90 mph but really plays up do to his low release height and plus extension out front.  Slider has late action out of the same window as FB, has more of a shorter break to it. Young man continues to impress and improve each time out.

Landon Fowler RHP / RHP / Powdersville , SC / 2025

Big strong physical frame with athleticism at 6-3 195 pounds.  Fowler is an arm that has progressively got better each time we have seen him throughout the spring and summer.  Very projectable arm and frame with lots to dream on.  Fastball shows good life with some ASR and shows the ability to locate glove side.  Breaking ball continues to improve as it is starting to become an out pitch.

Gabe Murray RHP / 2B / Fuquay Varina, NC / 2025

5-foot-10, 170 pounds with excellent arm speed and athletic twitch present.  On top of running his fastball up to 89 for PBR Scouts the right-hander has also run a 6.64 on the laser.  Early to his cocking phase with the arm, he has good strength through the torso to hold his line as he works down the line. Heavy pronator, he spins the fastball up to 2650rpm, with an average IVB of 14.4in.  He does produce heavy arm side run, and could be setup to grow into a lethal sink/slider guy as the slider ranged 68-72, 2375rpm.

Jake Cackovic RHP / 1B / Holly Springs, NC / 2025

Two sport athlete is also highly regarded in basketball.  Stands 6-foot-7, 200 pounds and is just beginning to scratch the surface of what his ceiling could be as he continues to mature.  Up to 83 for PBR Scouts, there have been reports that the fastball has grown throughout the spring and summer.  As big as he is, and with splitting time on the basketball court, it is very intriguing his ability to flood the zone and attack hitters with a solid arsenal, even as he is behind in reps compared to many pitchers his own age.

Austin Federspiel RHP / 1B / East Forsyth, NC / 2025

Federspiel provided a menacing close to games for East Forsyth HS, a club that spent several weeks in the PBR National Top 25.  Another big body for Team Carolina, Federspiel stands 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, working from an over-the-top slot with a fastball that has seen 86 for PBR Scouts, and reports that it has continued to grow.  Solid mix, with feel for the zone should have Federspiel on the board for many programs after the Future Games.

Davis Cabbage RHP / 2B / Hickory Grove Christian, NC / 2025

This right hander has athleticism and feel, standing 5-foot-11, 165 pounds.  While there may not be a true out pitch in the arsenal today, he does have 3 average to above pitches that he can mix and match, and he has shown an ability to attack a hitter's weakness with feel and command.  The fastball should be up to 88 and it could feel harder to hitters as the breaking ball and change-up begin to land.

Bradley Anderson RHP / SS / Silver Bluff, SC / 2025

5-11 150 pound very athletic body with tons of quick twitch to him.  Shows a very quick arm with a short circle arm swing while throwing from a H 3/4 arm slot.  Fastball jumps out of hand while showing good angle to it, allowing him to pitch up and down in the zone.  Curveball shows good depth and spin to it while having a 12/6 action.  Big time projection with this lighting quick arm and athletic frame.

Micah Simpson LHP / OF / TC Roberson , NC / 2025

Low slot, high spin lefty that has ride through the zone has terrorized North Carolina hitters throughout 2023, ultimately winning a state championship with TC Roberson.  On a national level, Simpson also showed his ability to miss bats in the 2023 NHSI Tournament presented by USA Baseball, where Roberson faced 4 teams in the nation's top 20 at the time.  Up to 82 with a spin rate above 2300rpm, the fastball has big run out of the hand, and has shown an ability to work at the top of the zone.  Hitters will contend with the fastball, but will see a heavy mix as Simpson has excellent feel for 3 pitches.

William Leahy LHP / OF / Heritage, NC / 2025

Clean and repeatable, this lefty has a ton of upside as he continues to grow into his 5-foot-10, 150 pound frame. Still very young, the fastball has peaked at 85 for PBR Scouts, but it is more about the arsenal and the future for Leahy.  This summer he has used all three pitches to keep elite clubs off balance.  The ability to command the baseball allows him to attack hitters however he sees fit in the moment.

Aiden Vorlick RHP / 3B / Summerville, SC / 2025

Strong athletic physique with potential to grow, measuring 6-0 185.  Delivery that was well-paced and directed down the mound.  Throws with a shorter arm takeaway while using a H 3/4 arm slot.  Fastball easily jumped out of control while being thrown at speeds of up to 88.8 mph while showing good vertical b break.  His breaking ball exhibits significant breaking motion.  Up to 74.8 mph with a maximum spin of 2503 rpm and -12 inches of forced vertical break, with big time break and depth.  Shows good feel for his change up as well.
