Mustangs Pour It On Late In 11-1 Win Over South Meck

South Mecklenburg 1     Myers Park 11

Game Recap:
The depth of the Myers Park offense was on full display as the Mustangs took a non-conference matchup with South Mecklenburg HS on Wednesday night by a score of 11-1. The Mustangs racked up 13 hits and worked an additional 4 walks. The offensive attack was led by Pres Cavenaugh, Patrick Alvarez, and Jack Currie.

The Mustangs got off to a fast start in the first. Cavenaugh singled to center and Alvarez followed by depositing a 2-2 breaking ball over the left field wall. In the 2nd Currie led off with a single but was cut down trying to steal. The rest of the inning would be all Mustangs as RJ Rhem walked, Jack Shaw singled, scoring Rhem who had stolen 2B. Cavenaugh then scored Shaw on a single to center and would come around to score on a 2 out hit from Preston Hall.

Up 5-0 after two, senior RHP Matt Hunter would settle in, working 5 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits, striking out 7. Hunter flooded the zone with his fastball, throwing 50 of his 83 pitches for strikes (60%).

Junior OF, Breon Ishmael would be the lone hitter to touch up Hunter, hitting a towering homer to right in the 3rd. This would be the only threat for South Meck in the game.

Up 6-1 in the bottom of the 6th, Myers Park would touch up the South Meck bullpen scoring 5 runs in the inning, ending the game in the 6th. Currie had the final RBI, singling on a hard hit ball to third.
