Nine to Know: Top Power Stats from Recent Scout Days

Brandon Hall
Executive Director of Scouting, PBR NC

Throughout the fall, PBR scouts have been across the state watching players and programs.  One of the events offered to area programs is a PBR Scout Day.  In the PBR Scout Day, PBR is able to evaluate players from each organization in a setting that is designed to see players at their best.

Today in Nine to Know we take a little different path from most weeks.  Instead of diving deep on 9 players, we are taking a deep dive into multiple statistical avenues with pitchers from recent scout days.  In each statistical category, we will look at the top 9 performances from recent scout day.  This week we dive into some of the top breaking balls seen at recent scout days.

Click on the name of the players in each category will take you to the player's full PBR Profile with stats and video available.

These Scout Days were considered for this Nine to Know:

Top Exit Velocity - Off of a Tee

For a long time, exit velocity was measured at pro-style workout events with players hitting off of a tee and a radar gun recording the top exit velocities off of the bat.  This stat has become outdated, but it is fun to see how this number can still correlate to the power projection of a player.  With more reps, a player's average exit velocity off of a tee can give coaches a feel for consistent barrel feel and strength.  Below are the top exit velocity numbers off of the tee, at each scout day.

TrackMan Exit Velocity

As the game has progressed, the ability to measure players has as well.  This past summer PBR introduced TrackMan to their showcases, allowing for a better representation of exit velocity, capturing it during live BP.  TrackMan is able to capture and track ball flight for each ball struck into fair territory.  Below are the top exit velocities, gathered by TrackMan during live BP, during recent Scout Days.
