On July 24th, top players from North Carolina and South Carolina converged on Winthrop University for the first ever NC/SC Border Battle.  The Border Battle allowed players to workout and compete in front of college coaches and pro scouts, while updating their information for their PBR Profile, connecting them with over 900 college coaches and pro scouts that subscribe to PBR.

The event was a huge success with players from each state impressing those in attendance.  The process to break all of the information down has begun.  Player statistics have been loaded to the event page and onto each player’s personal PBR Profile.  Along with stats, each player has a PBR Video from their workout on their profile page.

Jacob Mabe SS / OF / West Stokes, NC / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 133 / POS: 28   Athletic build with wiry strength at 5 foot 7, 140-pounds.  Hits with a relaxed upright setup from the right side of the plate.  Short stride during his load with some slight barrel waggle.  Stays under control during batting practice with a balanced, line drive approach, using the whole field.  Barrel works level through the zone with average feel for the barrel and bat speed.  Exit velocity recorded at 86 mph.  Plays athletic on the infield with some rhythm to the feet and hands.  Above average hands, funneling to the belt after catch with a longer arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Accurate arm to first base that topped at 79 mph.  Recorded a 6.94 in the 60.

 

 

Will Austin 2B / C / Eastern Alamance, NC / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 162 / POS: 9   5 foot 8, 158-pound build with a slight frame.  Hits from the right side with an open, narrow base.  Medium length stride, getting his feet back to even with barrel movement during the load.  Loose hands, with a fatter bat path through the zone.  Average bat speed working mostly middle to his pull side with some feel for the barrel.  Exit velocity recorded at 82 mph.  Behind the plate he transfers across his chest with a short arm action, throwing from an over the top slot.  Doesn’t get his feel in line to second base causing some inconsistency in his throws.  Pop times ranged from 2.16-2.28 with his arm topping at 75 mph from a crouch position.  Feet work around the ball on the infield, with average hands, funneling to the midsection after catch.  Arm topped at 78 mph across the diamond with some carry and accuracy.  Recorded a 7.38 in the 60. Simple, stable delivery on the mound.  Medium arm swing to an over-the-top slot.   Works on-line, in-line, and lands square.  Level throughout the delivery.   Fastball ranged 75-78.  Some feel for a downer breaking ball at 61-64.  Hard, late tilt to the breaking ball.

 

 

Kannon Frady 2B / SS / Lake Norman, NC / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 128 / POS: 5   5 foot 11, 165-pound frame with room to add strength.  Strong base from the right side in a balanced setup.  Quiet hands during the load, picking his front with a small stride.  Gap to gap approach with his barrel working uphill after contact.  Some fluidness to the swing with some feel for the barrel.  Exit velocity recorded at 85 mph.  Plays through balls on the infield with average hands.  Low hips and gets his hands out front at the catch point.  Accurate arm to first base that topped at 80 mph.  Recorded a 6.90 in the 60.

 

 

Hayden Ridenhour SS / 3B / Glenn, NC / 2020   Committed to Queens University shortly after the Border Battle.  5 foot 11, 175-pound build with some strength present.  Tall slightly open setup from the right side.  Small, controlled leg kick during his load with weight transfer through the ball.  Fluid swing with some strength and lift to his pull side.  Looks to get the barrel out with some barrel awareness.  Average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 87 mph.  Plays relaxed on the infield with his feet working around the ball with better than average hands. Funnels to the belt after catch, with feel for using different arm angles.  Accurate arm across the diamond with some carry.  Positional velocity topped at 79 mph.  Recorded a 7.53 in the 60.

 

 

Jackson Bowman 2B / SS / Wesleyan Christian , NC / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 140 / POS: 7 5 foot 9, 198-pound build with strength.  Balanced setup from the right side of the plate.  Quick load with a short stride and hands working back.  Gap to gap approach during batting practice with some feel for his barrel.  Keeps his barrel in the zone with above average bat speed against live arms.  Exit velocity recorded at 87 mph.  Plays through balls in the outfield with average hands.  Clean exchanges with a medium arm stroke, throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Some accuracy to his throws that topped at 84 mph.  Some stiffness at the catch point on the infield with using different slots to first base with some feel for the bag.  Arm topped at 84 mph across the diamond.  Recorded a 7.04 in the 60.

 

 

Cooper Andrews SS / 2B / Covenant Day, NC / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 159 / POS: 31   Athletic build at 6 foot, 170-pounds.  Offensively he works from the right side with a balanced setup and stiff back elbow.  Simple load with a short stride.  Level bat path, getting extension out front, with some length in the swing at times.  Works mostly middle to his pull side during batting practice.  Some in game barrel awareness hitting a ball hard to left field.  Exit velocity recorded at 86 mph.  Fluid actions on the infield with his feet working around the ball, paying with rhythm.  Above average hands, funneling to the belt after catch.  Accurate arm with carry across the diamond that topped at 81 mph.  Recorded a 7.25 in the 60.

 

 

Gavin Mortenson SS / RHP / Northwest Guilford, NC / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 29 / POS: 7   Western Carolina commit.  Lanky build with present strength at 6 foot 2, 170-pounds.  Hits from the right side with a wide base, sitting into his legs.  Small leg kick during his load with some barrel movement.  Slightly uphill bat path hitting line drives to his pull side.  Looser, more middle of the field approach during game action making hard contact on two balls to center field.  Exit velocity recorded at 88 mph.  Advanced defender who plays with confidence on the dirt.  Has rhythm to his feet and hands with smooth, fluid action.  Accurate arm across the diamond using different slots that topped at 88 mph.  Recorded a 7.09 in the 60.

 

 

Daniel Stephens SS / OF / Pro 5 Academy , NC / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 66 / POS: 17   6 foot 2, 175-pound lanky, athletic build.  Balanced, relaxed setup from the right side.  Smooth load with his weight and hands working back with a short stride.  Quick, loose hands with rhythm to his swing.  Above average bat speed with strength to his pull side.  Flashed feel for his barrel throughout the day.  Exit velocity recorded at 81 mph.  Plays relaxed on the infield with rhythm to his feet and hands.  Above average hands, funneling to his belt after catch, with feel for different arm angles to first base.  Made a solid backhand play at shortstop during game play, showing range and arm strength across the diamond.  Positional velocity topped at 87 mph.  Recorded a 6.70 in the 60.

 

 

Trevor Faulkner 2B / SS / Reagan, NC / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 127 / POS: 4   5 foot 9, 195-pound build.  Hits from the left side with an open setup and strong base.  Gets his feet back to even during his load with his weight and hands working back.  Loose hands with some barrel whip through the zone.  Has lift in his swing with a pull approach.  Had good swings against live arms with above average bat speed and feel for his barrel.  Exit velocity recorded at 84 mph.  Active feet that work around the ball on the infield.  Average hands, funneling to the center of his body after catch.  Accurate arm across the diamond that topped at 72 mph.  Recorded a 7.75 in the 60.
