NC/SC Border Battle - NC 2020 MIF Analysis

On July 24th, top players from North Carolina and South Carolina converged on Winthrop University for the first ever NC/SC Border Battle. The Border Battle allowed players to workout and compete in front of college coaches and pro scouts, while updating their information for their PBR Profile, connecting them with over 900 college coaches and pro scouts that subscribe to PBR.
The event was a huge success with players from each state impressing those in attendance. The process to break all of the information down has begun. Player statistics have been loaded to the event page and onto each player’s personal PBR Profile. Along with stats, each player has a PBR Video from their workout on their profile page.

Jacob Mabe SS / OF / West Stokes, NC / 2020Rankings StateRank: 133 / POS: 28
Athletic build with wiry strength at 5 foot 7, 140-pounds. Hits with a relaxed upright setup from the right side of the plate. Short stride during his load with some slight barrel waggle. Stays under control during batting practice with a balanced, line drive approach, using the whole field. Barrel works level through the zone with average feel for the barrel and bat speed. Exit velocity recorded at 86 mph. Plays athletic on the infield with some rhythm to the feet and hands. Above average hands, funneling to the belt after catch with a longer arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot. Accurate arm to first base that topped at 79 mph. Recorded a 6.94 in the 60. |
Will Austin 2B / C / Eastern Alamance, NC / 2020Rankings StateRank: 162 / POS: 9
5 foot 8, 158-pound build with a slight frame. Hits from the right side with an open, narrow base. Medium length stride, getting his feet back to even with barrel movement during the load. Loose hands, with a fatter bat path through the zone. Average bat speed working mostly middle to his pull side with some feel for the barrel. Exit velocity recorded at 82 mph. Behind the plate he transfers across his chest with a short arm action, throwing from an over the top slot. Doesn’t get his feel in line to second base causing some inconsistency in his throws. Pop times ranged from 2.16-2.28 with his arm topping at 75 mph from a crouch position. Feet work around the ball on the infield, with average hands, funneling to the midsection after catch. Arm topped at 78 mph across the diamond with some carry and accuracy. Recorded a 7.38 in the 60. |

5 foot 11, 165-pound frame with room to add strength. Strong base from the right side in a balanced setup. Quiet hands during the load, picking his front with a small stride. Gap to gap approach with his barrel working uphill after contact. Some fluidness to the swing with some feel for the barrel. Exit velocity recorded at 85 mph. Plays through balls on the infield with average hands. Low hips and gets his hands out front at the catch point. Accurate arm to first base that topped at 80 mph. Recorded a 6.90 in the 60. |
Hayden Ridenhour SS / 3B / Glenn, NC / 2020
Committed to Queens University shortly after the Border Battle. 5 foot 11, 175-pound build with some strength present. Tall slightly open setup from the right side. Small, controlled leg kick during his load with weight transfer through the ball. Fluid swing with some strength and lift to his pull side. Looks to get the barrel out with some barrel awareness. Average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 87 mph. Plays relaxed on the infield with his feet working around the ball with better than average hands. Funnels to the belt after catch, with feel for using different arm angles. Accurate arm across the diamond with some carry. Positional velocity topped at 79 mph. Recorded a 7.53 in the 60. |
