September 9, 2017
By Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting
The South Atlantic Border Battle features select players from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic. Players are selected from the 2018 and 2019 graduating classes to represent their respective area. Each team is coached by area scouts. Each team works through a semi pro-style workout with BP followed by game action.
Day one saw the Red Sox team (North Carolina 2018 graduates) play the early game against players from South Carolina. The third game of the day featured the Braves (North Carolina 2019 graduates) taking on a team repping Virginia.
Following the two day event, PBR will follow up with complete coverage of the players involved. After day 1, we take a quick look at some of the players that stood out during the workout and game play.
Day 1 Notebook
For many of the players in attendance this is their first outing after some down time from the end of the summer season. Across the board, many pitchers were down 1-3 mph from what PBR has seen in earlier outings. Hitters were battling for timing against good arms, getting one good look, as lineups were typically 12+ hitters deep, with pitchers only working a max of two innings.
