Saturday afternoon saw Middle Creek shut out No. 1 J.H. Rose by a score of 5 to 0. Middle Creek’s RHP Tucker Rogers (2017, Louisburg JC) was in command the entire game scattering 4 hits over 7 innings.
Rose entered the non-conference match-up hitting .340 and averaging almost 8 runs per game. Rogers was able to keep the Rampant offense at bay, throwing 87 pitches, 71% for strikes, and working ahead of 16 of the 25 hitters faced.
Middle Creek jumped on the board in the third without a hit. A walk and a hit batter, put runners on. With 2 outs, Ryan Sholar stole 3B and scored on a misplayed throw. Middle would extend the lead in the fifth with Sholar in the middle of the action again. Reaching on an error, Sholar was sacrificed to 2B and scored on a one out double to left-center from Jonathan D’Ercole (C/CIF, 2017).
Leading 2-0, D’Ercole would strike again in the sixth, putting the game away. Another Rose error kicked the inning off, followed by a 1 out walk. A single from Tucker Rodgers would score Chris Bleeker. D’Ercole then lined a single to right, scoring the fourth run of the game. Rodgers would score on a throw on the play as well, giving Middle Creek the final 5-0 margin.
Rose used three pitchers in the game with Ryan Goodwin taking the loss. The three arms combined to allow 8 hits, 5 runs, all of which were unearned.
