Matt Willadsen: PBR Player of the Week - April 15 - 21, 2019
April 23, 2019
Player of the Week nominations are submitted by High School coaches across North Carolina each week. Along with the nominations, Prep Baseball Report is diving into box scores, talking to coaches and scouts, and attending as many games as possible.
PBR's staff sifts through the information sent in and seen by our scouts to determine the PBR Player of the Week every Tuesday. You can see a full list of players off to a hot start in Diamond Notes, a collection of notes, stats, and highlights from the past week, published every Wednesday during the season.
The PBR Player of the Week for April 15 - 21 is Holly Springs RHP/SS Matt Willadsen. Willadsen is a senior, committed to North Carolina State, who had a big hand in helping Holly Springs capture the 32nd annual Bobby Murray Spring Break Tournament. For his efforts, Willadsen was named to the All-Tournament team, and the Tournament MVP.
Offensively, Willadsen contributed, hitting .375 with a home run and 4 RBIs in the three games. It was his effort on the mound that separated him from the pack on this week. In round two, Willadsen threw a complete game no-hitter, coming within one pitch of a perfect game. With two outs in the 7th, he hit the 21st hitter of the game, before earning his 17th strikeout of the game to finish the contest.
For all of his work in the three games at the Bobby Murray, leading Holly Springs to a 3-0 record, Matt Willadsen is the PBR Player of the Week for April 15 - 21, 2019.
