Wheatmore 1 Ledford 2
Game Recap:
In game 2 of the Hi-Toms High School Classic on Saturday, a pitcher's dual broke out between Wheatmore and Ledford. In the end, Ledford plated two run, with two RBIs from their staring pitcher, Carson Shetley to take the game 2-1.
Shetley worked the first three innings for Ledford allowing 1 hit and striking out 2. He was able to work out of self created jam in the 3rd where he walked two of the first hitters, sandwiching a strikout between. With one out and two on, Shetley induced a ground ball to short, getting the 2nd out but moving both runners up. To end the inning, Shetley's batter mate, Cooper Craven picked off Robert Hales from 3B.
Wheatmore started junior righty Connor Cox, a UNC Pembroke commit. The righty showed a solid 3-pitch mix getting swing and miss on his breaking ball and change-up throughout his 4.1 innings. Ledford scratched a run in the first with a two out single from Chris Villaman, followed by Will Bethune reaching on an error. Shetley helped his own cause singling up the middle, scoring Villaman for an early lead.
Ledford extended their lead in the 3rd. Gavin Sentell walked to start the inning, and stole second. With one out, he would move to 3B on a groundout by Bethune. Again Shetley came through with a bloop single between third, short, and left field, scoring Sentell.
Bethune earned the win for Ledord, working 4 innings without issuing a walk and striking out 5. A two out single in the 5th from Gabe Hernandez put Wheatmore on the board. Hernandez would steal 2B and 3B on the next two pitches but Bethune turned to his sweeping breaking ball to end the treat with a strikeout.
