Inside the 2025 Rankings: Newcomers

Matt Payne
Director of Scouting, PBR of NC

Coming off a busy summer, and starting the 2023 - 2024 season, PBR updated class rankings across the country for the 2025 class this week.  The North Carolina rankings were expanded to the top 160 players in the state.

As PBR scouts are out, throughout the school year and summer circuit, they are working to update player grades and rankings list.  Entering a busy time for the 2025 class, scouts begin to bear down on the class, seeing them in higher profile events, and seeing how the commitment process plays out for many of the players.  With the work being put in, there are new players to add to the rankings list.  Some of these players may have been known, but did not have enough history to garner a player grade to put them in the rankings. Some of the players may have simply continued to develop to the point that coaches and scouts could not look away any more.

Below we break down 10 players that are new to the class of 2025 rankings in North Carolina.

Average size with strength present in an athletic build at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds. Level and on-line, the arm works through a long arm swing getting to the top of the arc and cocking phase early.  Strong core allows him to hold the peak position, still creating a ton of arm speed. Fastball has heavy run at 86-89, touching 90 with a spin that peaked above 2500rpm. Sweeping curveball ranged 71-73 from the same high-¾ slot that the fastball worked out of.  Flashed a good feel for a change-up at 74-76, 1600rpm.
