Game Recap:
Saturday in Thomasville, as part of the Hi-Toms High School Classic, 6 teams participated in three games, featuring teams from the Triad area. Game 1 featured Southwest Guilford and Ragsdale.
In a back and forth game, Southwest Guilford claimed victory over Ragsdale with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the 7th. Ragsdale built an early 2-1 lead after the first. Southwest would tie in the 3rd, and again in the 5th with a two run inning. The sixth inning saw Ragsdale take a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, down 1 with one on, Isaiah Hairston homered to right field, giving Southwest the 6-5 win.
Ragsdale jumped on the board in the 1st with a double from Trey Jackson, moving runners to 2nd and 3rd. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Jon Sillman was followed by Jackson scoring on a past ball. Hairston answered for Southwest with a solo home run to right, his first of two yard calls on the day.
With the game tied in the 6th, Ragsdale started their half off with a single from Willie Rumbos. With Rumbos advanced to 2B, Win Scott laid down a drag bunt single putting runners on the corners. A groundout from Adam Patterson scored Rumbos, with Ragsdale take a 5-4 lead.
Ragsdale was led on the mound by senior Trey Jackson, working 5 innings, striking out 7. All four 4 runs he gave up were earned. Jackson received a no-decision on the night.
In relief for Southwest, Owen Kincaid threw 3 innings, taking the win, allowing 1 unearned run and striking out 4.
The bottom of the 7th started with Camden Saylor reaching on an error, capping a ball off his bat to the right side of the field, seeing it misplayed by the second basemen. An innocent flyout left Saylor at first as Isaiah Hairston stepped to the plate. In a 3-2 count, Saylor was picked off first base, staying in a rundown, and eventually outrunning a tag at 2B, moving the tying run into scoring position. The next pitch came off Hairston's bat in a hurry and left the yard with not doubt, giving Southwest the 6-5 win.
