Late Runs Slip Richmond Past Terry Sanford
Richmond SR used a late offensive outburst and 5 solid innings of relief from Drew Loving (SS, RHP, 2018) to capture a 6-5 win over Terry Sanford HS. Down 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth, Garet Weigman singled, advanced to third on an errant pick-off attempt, and scored on a SAC Fly by Braxton Furstein. The next hitter gave us all a bit of deja vu as Brett Young singled, advanced to third on an errant pick attempt, and scored on a SAC Fly from Alex Anderson (INF, 2019).
Drew Loving entered the game as a relief pitcher when starter Jonathan Lee (LHP, 2018, UNC Pembroke commit) was pulled due to cramping in a lower leg. Loving worked 5 innings, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 4. In the 7th, Terry Sanford’s Justin Ebert (SS, 2019) singled for his second hit of the day, but Loving eliminated the threat with a pop up to seal the win.

Average frame that has added strength in the off-season. Found the barrel three times in four at-bats. Simple, balanced setup. Direct path to the ball. Flat through the zone with average to slightly above bat speed. Works for extension.

Pinecrest Outslugs Apex
A five run outburst in the bottom of the 5th gave Pinecrest HS a lead it would not relinquish in the non-conference battle with visiting Apex HS. Down 5-3, the inning started with an infield single from Peyton Grant. Leadoff hitter, Elliott Embler followed with a successful SAC bunt. After a double from Dax Ingram, Nik Pry (OF, 2018, UNC commit) delivered the big blow with a three-run, no-doubter, over the left field wall, giving Pinecrest a 6-5 lead. Pres Ostert (OF, 2019) doubled to CF scoring Zach Pruitt, finalizing the 5 run inning.
Davis Wilson and Dax Ingram combined to throw 3.2 innings in relief, allowing 1 run and striking out 4. Ingram gained the save, getting the final four outs.

Alexander Central Over Davie
On Saturday Davie County visited Alexander Central for a game that featured quality arms for both teams. Zach Hammer started for Alexander Central and cruised through 2 innings before Davie got on the board in the 3rd with a sac fly from Guy Brunelli. Carson Whisenhunt who started on the mound for Davie kept Alexander off the board until the 4th. Bryon Younts got things started with a walk and advanced to 3rd base on an errant throw by Whisenhunt. Younts then scored on a single by Josh Lafone. Davie added another run in the 4th on a passed ball. Alexander answered in the bottom of the 6th with 3 runs. A push bunt by Dylan Dessecker with runners on 1st and 3rd led to 2 runs, with help from the Davie defense. Bryson Hammer got the win in relief for Alexander working 3.2 innings and striking out 6.
