The PBR scouting staff was at Campbell University on Sunday November 11^th to run an Open ID event powered by The Performance Academy.  The event was open to all players and TPA used the event to run a tryout for their upcoming summer season.

With over 60 players in attendance, PBR gathered a lot of stats and information.  Players ran through a full pro-style workout including a laser timed 60, multiple offensive rotations, and a full defensive workout.  Pitchers threw a controlled bullpen with scouts marking down velocity and spin rates on each arm. 

We begin our player evaluations with the infielders.  Players had the opportunity to add an evaluation and video to their workout, allowing them to connect to the over 900 college coaches and scouts that subscribe to PBR.  The infielder group includes 14 players from the grad years of 2020 - 2023.

MIDDLE INFIELDERS

 

Clay Clinard SS / 3B / Clayton, NC / 2021 5 foot 11, 200-pound average frame.  Slightly open setup from the right side with a narrow base. Hands work back during the load, creating some bat angle above his head with an average stride.  Fluid swing with quick hands.  Drove balls to left center field with better than average feel for his barrel.  Average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 92 mph.  Fluid actions on the infield.  Average hands with comfort through his catch and release using different arm slots.  Accurate arm that topped at 75 mph.  Recorded a 7.68 in the 60.

 

 

Kameron Walker SS / RHP / Chapel Hill, NC / 2021 Lanky, athletic frame at 5 foot 9, 145-pounds.  Had one of the best rounds of batting practice on the day making consistent hard contact.  Balanced and relaxed from the right side.  Simple load with a small hand cock and short stride.  Quick hands with a flat stroke.  Balanced throughout his swing with better than average bat speed.  Exit velocity recorded at 82 mph.  Athletic on the infield with better than average hands.  Quick release with feel for different arm angles. Some carry to his throws across the diamond that topped at 69 mph.  Recorded a 7.28 in the 60.  Athleticism suggests some room to his ceiling as he continues to mature.

 

 

Tate Mickey 2B / SS / Corinth Holders , NC / 2021 5 foot 7, 145-pound average build.  Slightly open setup from the right side with his hands starting in front of his chest.  Hands work back during the load with an average stride.  Quick hands with a mostly short barrel path to the ball.  Stays inside the ball and uses the whole field with feel for his barrel.  Looks to lift the ball with better than average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 85 mph.  Athletic on the infield with relaxed hands.  Feet and hands work in sync with a quick release.  Accurate arm with some carry to first base that topped at 76 mph.  Recorded a 7.18 in the 60.

 

 

Trevor Tuthill SS / 2B / Clayton, NC / 2022 Athletic frame at 6 foot 2, 175-pounds.  Relaxed open setup from the right side.  Smooth load using a toe tap with his hands working slightly back.  Loose hands with a level to slightly uphill barrel path.  Works middle to his pull side with his bat path getting long at times.  Has strength off the barrel.  Average barrel awareness and bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 75 mph.  Quick feet on the infield looking to get around the ball.  Fights to get the hands and feet in rhythm.  Some accuracy to this throws to first base that topped at 75 mph.  Recorded a 7.68 in the 60.

 

 

Cole McGivern SS / 2B / Middle Creek , NC / 2021 5 foot 10, 145-pound average frame.  Hits from the right side with a balanced setup.  Weight works smooth back during the load with an average stride, gliding into the ball.  Hands cock creating some bat angle above his head.  Short barrel path to the ball working flat through the zone.  Works through the middle of the field with feel for his barrel.  Exit velocity recorded at 76 mph.  Athletic on the infield with feel for getting the right hop.  Average hands with a quick exchange.  Some accuracy across the diamond with his arm topping at 62 mph.  Recorded a 7.56 in the 60.

 

 

Ethan Lavinder 2B / OF / Middle Creek, NC / 2023 5 foot 7, 111-pound thin frame.  Hits from the right side with a balanced setup.  Hands work down and back during the load with a small leg kick.  Barrel works short to the ball, staying through the middle of the field.  Has feel for his barrel with his exit velocity recorded at 75 mph.  Athletic on the infield, playing through the ball with average hands.  Clean transfers with a long arm action, throwing from a ¾ slot.  Some accuracy to his throws to first base with his arm topping at 68 mph.  Recorded an 8.22 in the 60. Quick arm on the bump creating good spin on the baseball.  Some rhythm in the delivery, working to stay level while on-line.  Lands in-line and square.  Medium arm swing is loose, working to a high-3/4 slot.  Front side is early clearing the line and creating some rotation through release with a fall to the 1B side.   Head leaves the line with the front side as well.  Fastball has run, around the zone consistently with spin rates ranging 2050 - 2130, sitting 68-71.  Breaking ball has tight, late tilt at 59-64 with spin rates ranging 2300 - 2440 rpm.  Threw one change-up at 67.  Spin rate and arm speed suggest some big jumps coming as strength is added to the frame.

 

 

Leo Cofoni SS / RHP / Holly Springs, NC / 2023 5 foot 9, 141-pound thin frame.  Balanced setup from the right side.  Weight works back during his load, sitting into his legs with a short stride. Some quickness to his hands, working middle to his pull side.  Uphill barrel path with average bat speed.  Exit velocity recorded at 73 mph.  Quick feet on the infield with average hands.  Catches the ball deep at times.  Clean transfers with an accurate arm to first base that topped at 64 mph.  Recorded a 7.63 in the 60. Some effort over the rubber.  Works level and closed at balance, landing on-line and square.  Short arm swing with average arm speed to a high-3/4 slot.  Fastball has run at 68-70 with spin rates ranging 1650 - 1950 rpm.  Breaking ball is gradual with inconsistent tilt.  1660 rpm sitting 64-56 with the breaker.

 

 

 

CORNER INFIELDERS

 

Reece Landmark 1B / OF / Fuquay-Varina , NC / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 179 / POS: 6 Athletic frame with room to add strength at 6 foot 4, 175-pounds.  Hits from the right side with a balanced setup with some barrel waggle.  Loads with a short stride and his hands getting ready to attack the ball.  Loose hands and keeps his barrel in the zone.  Works middle to his pull side with feel for his barrel and strength in his swing.  Average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 91 mph.  Active feet with some feel around the first base bag.  Average hands with clean transfers.  Accurate arm with carry that topped at 73 mph.  Recorded a 7.21 in the 60.

 

 

Charlie Lytle 1B / RHP / Middle Creek, NC / 2023 6 foot 2, 230-pound build.  Balanced setup from the right side, sitting into his legs.  Hands work slightly back during the load with a short stride.  Stays inside the ball, working through the middle of the field.  More hands than lower in the swing. Some strength in the hands with his exit velocity recorded at 81 mph.  Average hands at first base.  High hips at the catch position with a longer exchange and arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Some accuracy to his throws that topped at 70 mph.  Recorded an 8.69 in the 60. Some effort over the rubber, fighting to find consistent rythm.  Medium arm swing has some stiffness getting to an over-the-top slot.  High elbow as the hand begins to work to a cocked position.  Fastball plays straight at 70-74 with a spin rate of 1800 - 1900 rpm.  Strike thrower, commanded the fastball and was in the zone with the breaking ball.  Breaking ball has gradual 12/6 tilt with a spin rate of 1950 rpm, ranging 57-62.

 

 

Harrison Deutsch 1B / RHP / Clayton, NC / 2022 Large frame at 6 foot 4, 220-pounds.  Hits from the left side with a tall, open setup. Hands work back during the load while using a leg kick at times along with a toe tap.  Quick hands with a middle of the field approach.  Short barrel path to the ball with strength in his swing.  Found his barrel a lot during his second round of batting practice. Above average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 87 mph.  Average hands at first base with a short arm action and looks to get the ball in the air quickly.  Accurate arm that topped at 71 mph.  Recorded an 8.20 in the 60.

 

 

Nicholas Reiss 1B / RHP / Franklinton, NC / 2022 Athletic frame at 6 foot 3, 183-pounds.  Hits from the right side with an open setup, sitting low into his legs.  Hands work back during the load with an average stride getting back to even.  Looks to lift the ball with a pull approach.  Has strength off the barrel with above average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 81 mph.  Average hands at first base.  Catches the ball in the center of his body with low hips.  Accurate arm that topped at 66 mph.  Recorded a 7.84 in the 60. Starts his delivery with a sidestep, going into his left lift working up to his belt.  Breaks at the belt, dropping and driving to the plate.  Slightly across his body with a long arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Some quickness to his arm through release with his fastball ranging from 74-77 mph.  Spin rates on the fastball ranged from 2155-2241 rpm.  Kept his fastball down in the zone.  Maintains arm speed on his curveball with 11/5 tilt at 64-66 mph.  Curveball spun at 1934-2049 rpm.  Has feel for the curveball and threw it with confidence.  Flashed a changeup at 71 mph.

 

 

David Dilday 3B / RHP / Apex Friendship, NC / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 105 / POS: 9 Strong build at 5 foot 11, 175-pounds.  Hits from the right side with a balanced setup.  Small leg kick during his load with his hands getting ready to attack the ball.  Middle of the field approach consistently finding his barrel.  Some strength off the barrel with above average bat speed.  Exit velocity recorded at 85 mph.  Plays relaxed on the infield, catching the ball off his right hip.  Clean exchanges with an accurate arm to first base that topped at 69 mph with some carry.  Recorded a 7.32 in the 60.

 

 

Jonah Oster 3B / C / Middle Creek, NC / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 96 / POS: 7 Lanky, athletic frame at 6 foot 2, 180-pounds.  Hits from the right side with an athletic, slightly open setup.  Small leg kick during his load, gliding into the ball with a quiet barrel.  Put together consistent round of batting practice, lining balls through the middle of the field.  Quick hands with a direct barrel path to the ball.  Barrel stays through the zone with above average bat speed.  Exit velocity recorded at 88 mph.  Plays relaxed on the infield with some softness to his hands.  Funnels to the belt after catch with easy transfers.  Accurate arm to first base with carry that topped at 78 mph.  Pop times ranged from 2.06-2.14 with some feel for the second base bag.  Arm topped at 77 mph from a crouch position.  Clean transfers with a high ¾ release.  Recorded a 7.66 in the 60.

 

 

Michael Griffin 3B / RHP / Apex Friendship, NC / 2023 5 foot 11, 180-pound average build.  Hits from the right side with a tall, slightly open setup.  Hands work back during the load with an average stride, getting back to even.  Some quickness to his hands with his barrel getting extension out front.  Works middle to his pull side with lift in his swing.  Better than average bat speed with strength in his swing.  Exit velocity recorded at 77 mph.  Feet work around the ball on the infield, catching the ball in the center of his body.  Funnels to the belt after catch with clean transfers, short arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Some accuracy across the diamond with his throws topping at 68 mph.  Recorded a 7.93 in the 60. On the mound, has some rhythm working level and on-line.  Lands in-line and square on the front foot.  Above average quickness with the arm through a short arm swing, loading the scap, working to a high-3/4 slot.  Fastball ranged 73-75 with a spin rate of 1750 - 1850 rpm.  Change-up has run and solid hand speed at 68-70.
