College Campus I.D. Greensboro: Primary Pitcher Analysis

PBR continued its pursuit to identify the top players in the state of North Carolina on Thursday October 10, 2019 at War Memorial Stadium, home of the North Carolina A&T Aggies, as part of the College Campus ID. Players in attendance were able to go through a full pro-style workout with PBR Scouts collecting stats, notes, and video. In the coming days, PBR will post a full statistical breakdown as well as complete look at each player in attendance with video and an evaluation.
We finish our look at the College Campus ID from Greensboro with our primary pitcher evaluations. Six pitchers took the bump at War Memorial Stadium with PBR scouts tracking stuff, command, delivery, and spin rates. The evaluation includes all of the player's numbers from the event and a link to his personal video hosted on his PBR Profile Page.

Andrew Poon RHP / 1B / Northwest Guilford, NC / 2022
Lanky build at 5 foot 11, 160-pound with room to add strength. Slight side step, lifting to the top of the chest and loading the backside. Slightly closed at balance. Long arm swing to an over-the -top slot. Some effort with average arm speed. Lands just open on his line, with a square foot strike. Fastball has run out of the hand, ranging 75-78 with a spin rate at 1888 rpm. Straight change-up has deception out of the hand. Change at 74-75, 1256 rpm. Two different breaking balls with the curveball ranging 60-63. Slightly cast out of the hand, works with gradual 11/5 tilt and a spin rate peaking at 1769 rpm. Slider has cutter type action at 69-72. |
Ryan Cornelius RHP / 3B / Northside, NC / 2021
Average frame with some strength in the lower half, standing 5-foot-11, 170 pounds. Small side step with a stable head, lifting to the mid chest. Slight pelvic tilt upward as he reaches balance. On-line and level, lands in-line and square with the front foot. Long arm swing with the hand laid off a bit at foot strike. Above average arm speed, working with some effort through release. Fastball ranged 74-77, touching 78 in the windup with a spin rate of 1970 rpm. Slight dip to 73-76 in the stretch. Occasional cut to the fastball to the glove side. Showed feel for the zone. Change-up has deception out of the hand with good hand speed. Straight and attacking the zone, the change sat 70-71. Curveball at 68 shows late bite with a spin rate up to 1812 rpm. Slider sweeps early out of the hand, ranging 65-68 with a 1647 rpm. |
Jackson Roberts RHP / OF / Northern Guilford , NC / 2022
Projection left in a lanky, athletic frame. Stands 6-foot, 150. Repeats the delivery allowing the arm to work with some ease and above average quickness. Fastball was up to 83, sitting 80-83. Fastball spin rate ranges 2176 – 2273 rpm. Elevated at times, there is run to the arm side. Fastball should continue to jump as the body adds strength. Breaking ball has late, sharp at times, 11/5 tilt. Sitting 65-68 the breaking ball comes from a quick arm. Good feel for landing and expanding the pitch. Curveball spun at 2589 rpm. Small step forward and easy turn to a leg lift that loads the front hip, working to the top of the chest. Clean separation and easy arm swing to a high-3/4 slot. Smooth, works on-line, landing in-line and square. Average extension. Stable head throughout. Flooded the zone with the 2-pitch mix. |
Dawson Wiggins RHP / 3B / Midway, NC / 2021
Average build at 6 foot, 160-pounds. Some strength present. Choppy delivery working to build tempo throughout. Loads the front hip with a leg lift to the top of the chest. Closed at balance. Long arm swing getting to a high-3/4 slot. Lands on the arm side of his line with a slightly closed foot, falling early and hard to the 1B side. Fastball was erratic, dialing the zone in as the pen progressed. Heavy, the fastball sat 79-82, touching 84. Fastball spin rate ranged 2074 – 2101 rpm. Velocity ticked up as extension get better through the target. Early hump on the breaking ball with gradual 11/5 action at 65-66 and a spin rate up to 2582 rpm. In the zone, occasionally elevated, showed feel for landing the spin pitch. |
