A cool Tuesday night saw Brooke Point travel to Osbourn Park for an early-season non-District matchup. Both teams had uncommitted underclassmen slated to start with Brooke Point sending sophomore lefty Ryan Bellamy to the mound and OP tabbing junior righty Jack Braley for the start. A back and forth game would ensue that saw Osbourn Park down to its last strike in the seventh before rallying to send the game into extras, only to see Brooke Point prevail, 6-4, in eight innings.

Braley was dominant in his first three innings for the Yellow Jackets, allowing just one hit while striking out five during those frames. The Yellow Jackets also opened up a 1-0 lead in the second inning as senior Mario Duarte led off the inning with a double and was driven in by sophomore Ben Riddick to open the scoring. Bellamy was able to wiggle out of trouble and keep the Blackhawks in the game and after three, Osbourn Park held a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth, a leadoff walk and an error put two Brooke Point runners into scoring position with one out for Bellamy, who helped his own cause and tied the game with an RBI groundout. Brooke Point then took the lead as freshman Jaden Isidro singled to center to make the game 2-1.

The Blackhawks opened it up to 3-1 in the top of the fifth with a tack on run that scored on an error. Osbourn Park was able to get a rally of their own going in the bottom of the fifth and they cut the deficit to 3-2 on an AJ Shepard (Indiana) sacrifice fly. That was the score at the end of five complete.

Brooke Point again extended the lead in the top of the sixth on a Lance Robinson RBI single, and the Blackhawks managed to chase Braley at this point in time, who was replaced by sophomore Liam Gannon, coming in from second base. Gannon was able to stop the threat there and keep the score 4-2.

The Blackhawks went to the pen for the bottom of the sixth, turning to freshman righty Owen Bellamy, who took advantage of a runner getting caught too far off of third on a wild pitch to put up a scoreless inning. Gannon fired a perfect top of the seventh and the Yellow Jackets came to the plate down 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh with the top of the order due up.

Owen Bellamy got his first two outs on a strikeout and pop up behind first. He appeared to have the game in hand as well when he got Shepard to pop up just wide of first on a 3-2 pitch, but the ball got above the lights and was misplayed, giving Shepard and the Yellow Jackets new life. He took advantage, ripping a double down the leftfield line to keep the game alive. Braley drew walk to put the tying run on and then Duarte delivered his second double of the game, driving in both runs to tie the game. The Yellow Jackets loaded the bases on a pair of hit-by-pitches, forcing Brooke Point to go to the pen for Jason Kaiser, who was able to get the last out of the inning and send the game to extras.

In the top of the eighth, Brooke Point responded immediately as Josh Lupo led the inning off with a double to deep right-center. Gannon got a pop up for the first out but then Isidro came up and delivered his third hit of the game, driving in the go-ahead run. He would later score an insurance run on Dillon Taylor's second double of the game, giving Brooke Point a 6-4 lead. Kaiser worked a perfect bottom of the eighth to end the game and give the Blackhawks the win.

For Brooke Point, Kaiser was the winning pitcher with 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K. Ryan Bellamy went 5 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 4 K and was 2-4 with a run and an RBI at the plate. Isidro was 3-4 with 2 RBIs. Taylor was 2-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI.

For Osbourn Park, Shepard went 3-3 with a double, a sac fly, and an RBI. Duarte was 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Riddick was 2-3 with an RBI and a hit by pitch.
