Hickory Grove Christian traveled to Cuthbertson Tuesday for a matchup of two clubs with high aspirations for 2022. A pitching dual from the outset, each team used several of their top arms to keep the game at bay.
The Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd, scoring an unearned run on a dropped third strike followed by a dropped fly ball. Cuthbertson would answer with 2 unearned runs in the 4th, using two errors a walk, and a single from starting pitcher Tristan Potts.
Hickory Ridge would tie the game in the 6th, again using a dropped 3rd strike to get the rally going. A SAC Bunt and intentional walk would give Carson Cabbage a chance to hit a SAC fly to tie the game.
Cuthbertson used 3 arms in the 8 inning affair, allowing the 2 unearned runs on 0 hits and 2 walks while striking out 13. Hickory Grove used two arms, also giving up 2 unearned runs on 3 hits, striking out 12.
The game ended after 8 innings in the tie.
