8 Elite Underclass Arms from Holly Springs Workout
October 3, 2018
Ting Park in Holly Springs, NC hosted the South Atlantic Border Battle this past weekend, featuring some of the best high school players from NC, SC, VA, MD, DE, and DC. Prep Baseball Report of North Carolina was on hand to take in the games and workouts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Players were hand picked to attend and assigned to teams coached by area MLB Scouts.
Saturday and Sunday saw players representing the 2019 and 2020 classes for the most part. Teams were split up by their home state, but with the event in North Carolina, several players were assigned to teams outside their region’s team for competitive balance. On Saturday, players took part in a full workout with BP and a pro-style infield/outfield, allowing coaches and scouts to note players and their tool sets. Following the workout, players played in a 7 innings controlled scrimmage with the pitchers working 1-2 inning outings. At the conclusion of their game, players were able to run a timed 60 where PBR scouts were on hand to record an official PBR time. Sunday saw an abbreviated BP in the cages and a quick infield/outfield routine, prior to the live game action.
Most of the 2019 graduates from NC were assigned to the Atlanta Braves team coached by several area scouts from the same region. The 2020 graduates from NC filled the Boston Red Sox team, again coached by area scouts from NC.
